[00:00:56] Gold scoring great
[00:00:57] slightly less great in the eyes of Katie Price
[00:01:00] Play for United
[00:01:01] Villa
[00:01:02] Lapeurne
[00:01:02] Birmingham

[00:01:04] Run the chebble with United
[00:01:06] The League Cup with Villa
[00:01:07] Played at the 2006 World Cup with Trinidad and Tobago
[00:01:10] First non-English player to join the Premier League 100 club
[00:01:13] created plenty of headlines off the pitch
[00:01:15] with certain high profile romances
[00:01:18] plus
[00:01:19] Author
[00:01:20] But what will the book club think of his 2009 book
[00:01:23] Born to Score?
[00:01:24] Find out in today's football book club
[00:01:27] It feels like a sort of a modern day retelling of the Aeneid
[00:01:32] Hey no references to actual books
[00:01:34] Come on
[00:01:35] I would go and have a great night out
[00:01:36] and end up with a woman who would then be left amazed
[00:01:39] by me getting out of bed after sex to do 100 sit-ups and press ups
[00:01:42] He's got goals, he's got shagging
[00:01:44] He's hanging out with Brian Lara
[00:01:46] Surprising amount
[00:01:47] The big three
[00:01:48] Did you know that Guy Ritchie was caught by that guy called Cycling Mikey?
[00:01:52] Oh what a freaky thing to do Bozzy
[00:01:54] Save some of that spanking for me
[00:02:04] Hello and welcome to football book club
[00:02:07] The only book club where instead of literary classics
[00:02:09] each episode we read another footballer's autobiography
[00:02:12] Less Gillian Flynn
[00:02:14] More Niall Quinn
[00:02:16] Oh
[00:02:17] Hmm
[00:02:17] Yeah sorry
[00:02:18] Hmm
[00:02:18] That happened
[00:02:19] Yeah
[00:02:20] And a gongirl reference I like
[00:02:22] Yes, yes very very very much
[00:02:24] Because Niall Quinn turned up in gongirl
[00:02:26] I remember it well
[00:02:28] Not good to watch a Rosalind Pike
[00:02:30] Uh thank you to Superfan
[00:02:32] Oh Crabtree
[00:02:33] Remember him for that one
[00:02:35] Oh Crabtree
[00:02:36] Crabtree is old and alive
[00:02:40] I'm James Buck
[00:02:40] And over this series you've read such classics
[00:02:42] As Davy Ginalas
[00:02:44] Le Magnifique
[00:02:45] Ashley Coles
[00:02:45] My Defence
[00:02:46] And Alan Brazils
[00:02:47] There's a lot of bubbly in Brazil
[00:02:50] Fuck
[00:02:50] I know
[00:02:51] What we've seen
[00:02:52] When you say it out loud
[00:02:53] I know
[00:02:54] Like it just makes it clear
[00:02:56] A real role
[00:02:56] How much of our life we've wasted
[00:02:57] Yeah
[00:02:58] But
[00:02:59] Disaster
[00:03:00] And today we're reading another classic of the genre
[00:03:03] Dwight York's explosive 2009 book
[00:03:05] Born To Score
[00:03:07] And joining me to read it are
[00:03:09] Jack Bernhardt
[00:03:10] Hello
[00:03:10] Natasha Frisco
[00:03:11] Hello
[00:03:12] And okay
[00:03:16] So set the tone right
[00:03:18] You know what you did James
[00:03:20] It's not me
[00:03:21] Dwight wrote the book
[00:03:22] And uh
[00:03:23] And James Belgium
[00:03:24] Aye
[00:03:28] Welcome everyone
[00:03:29] To the last episode of series five
[00:03:32] Dude's five
[00:03:33] It feels like series 27 honestly
[00:03:35] That wasn't the myth that was meant to be
[00:03:37] That was the exception I wanted to get
[00:03:38] And so the reaction
[00:03:39] What the reaction I wanted to get was
[00:03:41] Oh like sad
[00:03:42] But you were like
[00:03:42] This is the fifth series
[00:03:44] Yeah
[00:03:46] I've always been cancelled yet
[00:03:50] Surely
[00:03:52] Yeah sad
[00:03:54] Totally not
[00:03:55] No
[00:03:55] Yeah
[00:03:56] No no no I
[00:03:57] I am sad
[00:03:59] But for a different reason
[00:04:01] No it's um
[00:04:03] I uh
[00:04:04] I like reading these books
[00:04:05] Well I like chatting to you
[00:04:06] I don't like reading these books
[00:04:07] I like chatting to you
[00:04:08] Yes
[00:04:08] And this
[00:04:08] I've been told many times is the only condi-
[00:04:10] This is the condition of your friendship
[00:04:12] Yeah that's true
[00:04:13] Yeah yeah yeah
[00:04:15] Has to be through zoom
[00:04:16] And it has to be
[00:04:17] Yeah
[00:04:18] Has to be after having read
[00:04:19] A book by Dwight York
[00:04:20] Wait yeah
[00:04:21] Please do you want to know about my kids?
[00:04:23] No I want to know what you think of Andy Townsend
[00:04:26] Dwight York's kids
[00:04:27] Yes
[00:04:28] Jeff Bernhardt's kids
[00:04:29] No
[00:04:30] No
[00:04:33] Preconceptions of the book
[00:04:35] Preconceptions of Dwight
[00:04:38] Wow
[00:04:38] That's an interesting question
[00:04:40] Yes
[00:04:41] I have something to say first of all
[00:04:43] I met him
[00:04:44] Oh
[00:04:45] Have you
[00:04:46] I what
[00:04:47] My mum reminded me of this
[00:04:48] So I told her we were doing this
[00:04:50] And she said
[00:04:50] Do you not remember
[00:04:52] I was like 14
[00:04:54] And I was getting the train to London
[00:04:56] To see my dad
[00:04:57] Don't pull that face jacket
[00:04:58] It's not going away
[00:04:59] I heard him say
[00:04:59] Ooh
[00:05:02] And my dad used to live in London
[00:05:04] I was on the train from Stoke to Houston
[00:05:06] And he was sat opposite me
[00:05:08] Wow
[00:05:08] And apparently I did not remember this
[00:05:11] But I told my mum
[00:05:12] He went and got me a can of coke
[00:05:14] So I do think he's a bit of a prick
[00:05:17] But he did buy me a can of coke
[00:05:19] That's very sweet
[00:05:20] Actually, Tash
[00:05:21] I just something I remember from the book
[00:05:23] And don't take this the wrong way
[00:05:24] But there is a moment
[00:05:25] There is a moment in the book
[00:05:27] Where Dwight York says
[00:05:28] One of the first things he did in London
[00:05:30] In England
[00:05:30] When he went to Man
[00:05:31] Went to Vila
[00:05:32] Was he ran past an old man
[00:05:35] And then he went and got him an ice cream
[00:05:38] Oh
[00:05:38] Oh
[00:05:39] Because it's to everyone then
[00:05:40] Well he does it
[00:05:42] He says he does it
[00:05:43] Because that's what they do in Toronto
[00:05:44] To Bego for like the vulnerable
[00:05:46] So
[00:05:46] Oh
[00:05:47] Well to be fair
[00:05:48] It was when
[00:05:49] It was back in the day where
[00:05:50] If you were under 16
[00:05:51] They made you sit with a chaperone
[00:05:53] What?
[00:05:54] So he probably thought
[00:05:55] Yeah
[00:05:55] I used to have to get trolled
[00:05:57] In the 19th century
[00:06:01] And it was a horse driving the car
[00:06:02] Maybe it was younger
[00:06:03] I don't know
[00:06:04] It was when
[00:06:05] It was me on the train
[00:06:05] And Virgin trains used to make Q-sit
[00:06:08] Really?
[00:06:08] Like
[00:06:09] Yeah, yeah, yeah
[00:06:09] Was it a Virgin cola?
[00:06:12] Yeah for virgins like me
[00:06:13] Oh
[00:06:14] It was
[00:06:14] Oh
[00:06:17] That
[00:06:17] That was a sweet bit
[00:06:18] I will say when it was like
[00:06:19] It was a Virgin cola, right?
[00:06:21] And but
[00:06:22] Yeah
[00:06:22] I remember Panda Pops
[00:06:23] But he
[00:06:24] He probably did think I was vulnerable
[00:06:26] You know
[00:06:26] If I was a little kid
[00:06:27] Get the train on my own
[00:06:28] That is true
[00:06:29] That is true
[00:06:30] Technically you were vulnerable
[00:06:31] It cooks
[00:06:34] That's a nice story
[00:06:34] However
[00:06:36] That said
[00:06:37] I did come in with this
[00:06:38] You know preconceived notions
[00:06:40] Ready to change my mind
[00:06:41] Strong opinions Lucy held and all that
[00:06:44] But I still think it's a massive twat
[00:06:46] There we go
[00:06:48] There we go
[00:06:48] That's that
[00:06:49] Despite the cola
[00:06:50] He could have bought you a thousand colas
[00:06:52] And you stood up and thought
[00:06:53] He could have bought me anything
[00:06:54] Absolute waste of time buying you a cola
[00:06:56] Waste of time
[00:06:57] I will say the
[00:06:58] When that story
[00:06:59] You know where it was like
[00:06:59] I bought an old man in ice cream
[00:07:00] And the old man was like
[00:07:01] This is the greatest day of my life
[00:07:03] And he was just like
[00:07:03] That's just what I do
[00:07:05] I will say I didn't think that story was true
[00:07:07] But the fact that he bought you a cola
[00:07:08] Makes me think that maybe it is true
[00:07:10] Actually I did
[00:07:11] I did think it was true
[00:07:12] Because I think he does respect men
[00:07:14] But not
[00:07:15] That is a
[00:07:17] Men and children only
[00:07:18] Yes, yeah
[00:07:19] I think that's what's important
[00:07:19] Not his own children
[00:07:20] But other people's children
[00:07:21] Well we don't
[00:07:22] We don't again
[00:07:22] This is being very
[00:07:23] Wow
[00:07:23] Wow
[00:07:23] He's
[00:07:24] He says he's very
[00:07:27] Now we're getting to this
[00:07:27] We're getting to this
[00:07:28] He's very
[00:07:28] I guess the preconceptions then
[00:07:30] Tash
[00:07:31] With
[00:07:32] I guess
[00:07:33] Me
[00:07:34] Jack
[00:07:34] And James
[00:07:35] Not to make too many assumptions
[00:07:36] Probably
[00:07:36] More associated with
[00:07:38] The Champions League
[00:07:40] The trouble winning
[00:07:40] Main item team
[00:07:41] The
[00:07:42] Trouble winning season
[00:07:43] Possibly slightly more with
[00:07:44] Tabloid
[00:07:45] Side of twice life
[00:07:46] Yes, yes
[00:07:47] That's right
[00:07:48] Correct
[00:07:49] And the sort of
[00:07:50] Yeah
[00:07:50] The
[00:07:51] The
[00:07:51] That 99 season
[00:07:52] Basically
[00:07:53] 98-99
[00:07:54] Yes
[00:07:54] Is
[00:07:55] It really
[00:07:55] Exactly
[00:07:56] Just him as
[00:07:56] As just
[00:07:57] Goal scoring machine
[00:07:58] And Andy Cole
[00:07:59] Best pals with Andy Cole
[00:08:01] If you ignore the terrible stuff
[00:08:02] He's a great guy
[00:08:03] Yeah
[00:08:06] Well
[00:08:07] The book is good for both of
[00:08:09] For all four of us actually
[00:08:10] Because it does
[00:08:12] It promises to put the message
[00:08:13] Straight on his career
[00:08:14] His relationships
[00:08:16] And his relationship with his son
[00:08:18] Harvey
[00:08:18] As well
[00:08:19] Can it do that successfully?
[00:08:21] Let's find out as we read
[00:08:22] Born to Score
[00:08:28] So over the show
[00:08:28] We're going into more depth about the book
[00:08:30] And lots of other fun things
[00:08:32] To celebrate our final episodes
[00:08:33] But first
[00:08:34] Let's see what Amazon is saying
[00:08:36] The book has 4.3 stars
[00:08:38] From 52 reviews
[00:08:39] Including this 5-star review
[00:08:40] 52
[00:08:41] Hmm
[00:08:42] From
[00:08:43] Gav
[00:08:43] Entitled
[00:08:44] Top Man Yorkie
[00:08:46] And I will say this is a very
[00:08:50] Liberal use of capital letters
[00:08:54] This book is an capital E
[00:08:56] Excellent read
[00:08:57] Some stories that leave you amazed
[00:08:59] This man has had the life
[00:09:01] That most of us can only dream of
[00:09:02] Some of the stories about the football
[00:09:04] And the women he bedded
[00:09:05] All capitals are hilarious
[00:09:07] Only Yorkie could do it
[00:09:08] Highly recommend
[00:09:10] That's what Gav thinks of it
[00:09:14] But what do you all think of it?
[00:09:16] Recommend
[00:09:20] Do I recommend?
[00:09:22] That was a good question
[00:09:23] Do I highly
[00:09:24] All capital letters recommend?
[00:09:26] This is a good question
[00:09:27] Mm-hmm
[00:09:29] I think going through the sort of like
[00:09:32] What did I think before going in
[00:09:33] I was expecting it to be a lot
[00:09:35] Well
[00:09:35] It's obviously incredibly laddy
[00:09:37] And incredibly naughty
[00:09:38] And incredibly
[00:09:39] But there is also quite an interesting theme
[00:09:41] Running through it
[00:09:42] About
[00:09:44] The concept of fate
[00:09:45] The concept of destiny
[00:09:47] And the sort of the
[00:09:49] The battles that York went through
[00:09:52] And I think it's actually quite
[00:09:53] It's a very well written book
[00:09:55] I agree with that
[00:09:55] There's a lot of
[00:09:58] Like it starts
[00:09:58] It starts in an amazing way
[00:10:00] It starts with him like being mugged
[00:10:02] And there's a bit when he comes across as like
[00:10:04] Sherlock Holmes
[00:10:05] Funky Buddha
[00:10:05] You know the
[00:10:06] Yeah, in the Funky Buddha
[00:10:07] You know the Guy Ritchie
[00:10:08] Charlotte Combs
[00:10:09] Oh
[00:10:10] I can see the door behind me
[00:10:11] Yes
[00:10:11] It's you know
[00:10:12] 600 meters
[00:10:13] If I punch him with this hard in the face
[00:10:14] Then his nose will explode
[00:10:16] And it's a bit where he sort of does that
[00:10:18] Where he's like
[00:10:19] I can see them outside
[00:10:20] They're going to jump over these people
[00:10:21] I knew those people were there
[00:10:22] I jump over them as well
[00:10:23] We jump
[00:10:23] We run through the streets
[00:10:24] It's like
[00:10:25] He's like
[00:10:26] Fucking James Bond
[00:10:27] He's James Bond
[00:10:29] So it's quite exciting
[00:10:30] Except that it ends with him
[00:10:32] With him like catching
[00:10:33] With the police actually catching them
[00:10:35] This mugger
[00:10:36] And York like
[00:10:38] He drop kicks it
[00:10:39] And then he says
[00:10:40] Yeah
[00:10:40] Drop kicks it
[00:10:41] And he gets really angry
[00:10:42] And then the police like
[00:10:42] Whoa Yorkie's like
[00:10:43] Hey, hey, it's okay
[00:10:45] It's okay
[00:10:45] I'm not going to do it again
[00:10:46] I'm not going to do it again
[00:10:47] He turns
[00:10:48] And then as soon as they let him go
[00:10:49] He punches the guy in the face again
[00:10:53] Which is very funny
[00:10:54] I agree
[00:10:55] So it is
[00:10:55] It's quite a high octane
[00:10:57] Quite exciting start
[00:10:58] And obviously you know
[00:10:59] There's a lot of
[00:11:01] Graphic
[00:11:02] Descriptions of his sex life
[00:11:04] Which I didn't care for
[00:11:05] No
[00:11:06] But if you can sort of ignore that
[00:11:08] Which is like
[00:11:09] Difficult
[00:11:10] Because it's like a lot of naughty's culture
[00:11:11] If you can ignore that
[00:11:13] Then it's good
[00:11:14] I do kind of agree with that
[00:11:16] Because I don't know if this is
[00:11:19] Actually how I feel about literature
[00:11:21] Anymore
[00:11:21] But when we read books
[00:11:23] We're so often given
[00:11:25] Really beige ones
[00:11:26] Which just tell the story of their life
[00:11:29] This one in fair play to it
[00:11:30] It rattles through
[00:11:32] It really doesn't like for a book
[00:11:33] That's quite long
[00:11:34] He rattles through
[00:11:35] I think you mean
[00:11:35] Yeah
[00:11:36] Yeah
[00:11:36] Oi Oi
[00:11:37] It's about
[00:11:38] Pee
[00:11:38] It's what like 330 pages or so
[00:11:40] And it does
[00:11:42] It does quite fly by
[00:11:43] It's got
[00:11:43] And it's got loads of things in it
[00:11:45] That kind of make it
[00:11:47] Either good
[00:11:48] Or you know
[00:11:48] So bad it's good at times
[00:11:50] It's got goals
[00:11:50] It's got shagging
[00:11:51] It's got
[00:11:52] He's hanging out with Brian Lara
[00:11:54] Surprising amount
[00:11:55] The big three
[00:11:56] Yeah
[00:11:56] The big three
[00:11:56] I would say things I want to do
[00:11:57] If you've got two of those things in your book
[00:12:00] You're onto a winner
[00:12:01] You're onto a winner
[00:12:02] And he's got all three
[00:12:03] Really
[00:12:03] I don't know but I do
[00:12:04] But I mean
[00:12:05] I'd like to sort of
[00:12:06] In a pitching books now a day
[00:12:07] Yeah
[00:12:08] I'd like
[00:12:09] Okay sure
[00:12:09] But where's the Brian Lara?
[00:12:11] Where's the shagging?
[00:12:17] I mean I do
[00:12:18] Think that structure-wise
[00:12:20] Is very interesting
[00:12:21] Because we
[00:12:22] The treble
[00:12:23] In this series in fact
[00:12:24] In the
[00:12:25] The most recent series of Football Club
[00:12:27] The show that you're currently listening to
[00:12:28] What number's that James?
[00:12:29] We
[00:12:30] What's that
[00:12:31] What series
[00:12:31] Yep
[00:12:33] Five
[00:12:33] Yeah that's correct
[00:12:34] Yep sorry
[00:12:34] 27
[00:12:35] Yeah
[00:12:37] No we've done The treble actually quite
[00:12:39] Weirdly quite a few times with like Roy Keane
[00:12:41] And
[00:12:42] Teddy Schoingham
[00:12:43] Yes
[00:12:43] Dwight York
[00:12:44] And what's interesting is
[00:12:46] Everyone's reaction to it is slightly different
[00:12:48] And what's interesting about this book
[00:12:50] Is what I thought it was going to be
[00:12:51] And what I think a more boring book would have been
[00:12:53] Would be you start with
[00:12:56] You start with a Barcelona
[00:12:58] 1999 and say that's the high point
[00:13:00] It was great
[00:13:02] And actually
[00:13:03] The structure of the book is completely different to that
[00:13:05] That happens in like chapter 6 I want to say
[00:13:08] Like of 22
[00:13:10] Mm-hmm
[00:13:10] Like he's very
[00:13:13] It's a very well structured book in the sense that
[00:13:15] Like very exciting things happen
[00:13:17] But he knows where to
[00:13:18] I say he
[00:13:19] Ghostwriter
[00:13:20] Or whoever sort of structured this book knows like
[00:13:23] How to frame it
[00:13:24] So it's not just like
[00:13:25] I was a
[00:13:27] Football player who wasn't doing particularly well
[00:13:29] And then I met Alex Ferguson
[00:13:31] And I won The treble
[00:13:32] The end
[00:13:32] Yep
[00:13:33] There's definitely a
[00:13:34] There are many interesting themes and questions
[00:13:37] That come through this book
[00:13:38] If folks is more on the unraveling
[00:13:40] Really of his career
[00:13:40] Yes
[00:13:41] Which is
[00:13:41] And to kind of explain away his media reputation
[00:13:45] A little bit
[00:13:45] Yeah
[00:13:46] Which but it also doesn't
[00:13:48] I will say it also doesn't come across
[00:13:49] I think there are times where it definitely comes across as a
[00:13:53] I need to undo the hatchet job
[00:13:55] That he perceives has been done by Katie Price
[00:13:57] And I have to do a hatchet job on her
[00:13:59] Which is horrible
[00:14:00] Really horrible to read
[00:14:02] But like
[00:14:03] Also within that
[00:14:04] There's a really interesting sort of
[00:14:06] Question of like
[00:14:09] Of like what does it mean to achieve really
[00:14:11] There's a sort of an interesting thing of like
[00:14:13] Once he's achieved everything at Manchester United
[00:14:16] Which he does in his first season
[00:14:17] There's kind of like a question of like
[00:14:19] What now?
[00:14:19] What next?
[00:14:20] And that is fascinating
[00:14:21] I don't think we've ever sort of read a book
[00:14:23] Where that has been so explicit
[00:14:25] And so I actually
[00:14:26] In that sense I really enjoyed it
[00:14:27] Oh very good
[00:14:28] Tash, James
[00:14:30] Big thoughts
[00:14:33] We can hold it back
[00:14:34] We can hold it back
[00:14:35] It can be a slow and ravelling
[00:14:37] No, no
[00:14:38] I mean I don't think it's going to be a surprise
[00:14:40] To any of you that I actually found parts of this
[00:14:43] Really difficult to read
[00:14:44] Like more difficult than I thought I would
[00:14:46] I thought I'd kind of see it
[00:14:48] You know when we read the Kaleen book
[00:14:50] And we've read loads of books
[00:14:51] Where they kind of talk about women in that way
[00:14:53] And it's whatever
[00:14:54] You know it was part of the culture back then
[00:14:56] But he is really
[00:14:59] Really dark about some of the things
[00:15:02] That he says about Katie Price
[00:15:03] And then I looked at like at the time
[00:15:06] What was going on
[00:15:07] And she's doing it to him
[00:15:08] And it's just
[00:15:09] There is something fascinating
[00:15:11] About this period of pop culture
[00:15:13] Because it was like
[00:15:14] The internet was there
[00:15:15] So and people were saying whatever they wanted
[00:15:19] But we hadn't yet got to a point
[00:15:20] Where people were almost being cancelled
[00:15:23] For doing anything
[00:15:24] So you would say stuff with complete
[00:15:26] Like free will
[00:15:28] You would just say it out loud
[00:15:30] And he's doing it in this book
[00:15:31] Which is really unfortunate
[00:15:33] Because it's stuck in 2009
[00:15:37] And there's nothing he can do to take it back
[00:15:39] And I'm not saying he would want to take it back
[00:15:41] But it's just kind of hard
[00:15:44] I was trying not to read it with my sort of 2024 glasses on
[00:15:48] But it is quite painful
[00:15:50] And I think he
[00:15:52] Having seen some stuff that he's been doing
[00:15:54] I kind of looked what he's doing now
[00:15:56] I do think he might regret some of it
[00:15:58] I do think he probably did take it a bit far
[00:16:01] Although I did see Joey Barton
[00:16:02] Invited him on his podcast
[00:16:04] So
[00:16:05] Oh god
[00:16:06] Joey Barton's just working his way
[00:16:08] Through football club heroes
[00:16:09] And taking them all down
[00:16:11] It's terrible
[00:16:12] Yeah
[00:16:13] But I mean
[00:16:13] We'll be able to have a series six
[00:16:17] Don't worry, Joey Barton will have us in the podcast
[00:16:20] I didn't expect to like it or him
[00:16:23] But I do
[00:16:24] I think it was darker than I thought
[00:16:25] It was going to be
[00:16:26] And I think he went to depths
[00:16:28] That we've never seen before
[00:16:29] In a football or autobiography
[00:16:31] Interesting
[00:16:32] Oh, I do
[00:16:33] I do
[00:16:33] It is a weirdly
[00:16:34] Like there's
[00:16:35] There's the sort of football side of it
[00:16:36] Which is very interesting
[00:16:37] And there's the
[00:16:39] There's the
[00:16:40] Women's side of it
[00:16:41] And that's particularly as you say
[00:16:42] The Katie Price stuff
[00:16:43] Which is
[00:16:43] But I thought the split would be
[00:16:46] More like
[00:16:48] I read someone
[00:16:48] I can't remember who it was
[00:16:50] There was a pundit who said
[00:16:51] He's only bought this book out
[00:16:52] Because he's trying to stay relevant
[00:16:54] And I kind of think that might be the case
[00:16:57] Because
[00:16:57] There's the percentage of
[00:17:00] His life versus football
[00:17:02] Is completely the opposite to what I thought it would be
[00:17:04] Like there's so much about his life
[00:17:06] Yeah, that is true
[00:17:06] Right from the beginning
[00:17:07] I agree with that
[00:17:08] I was surprised I lived for a while
[00:17:09] And all of the incredible things he achieved in football
[00:17:12] Are kind of secondary to him
[00:17:13] To the gossip
[00:17:14] Do you think that's just because
[00:17:16] You know, everything has been tabloid
[00:17:18] Tabloid, tabloid war
[00:17:19] For so many years
[00:17:20] This is finally his chance
[00:17:21] In one big thing to get across his point of view
[00:17:24] On that
[00:17:24] That's largely how I saw it
[00:17:26] Because it was serialised in the newspapers
[00:17:28] You're not going to get that
[00:17:29] If you're talking about winning the treble
[00:17:31] You're not going to get all of those opportunities
[00:17:34] But I think it probably is just trying to
[00:17:36] Put to bed some of the things with his children
[00:17:39] And yeah, put to bed
[00:17:41] Well, I think that's true
[00:17:42] There's also a lot of bitterness within it though
[00:17:44] Oh, yeah, of course
[00:17:45] I'm not saying the reason
[00:17:47] This is like
[00:17:48] And not saying that you're saying this
[00:17:49] But this is not how you deal with this horrible situation
[00:17:54] It's a hot... I did not realise how terrible the
[00:17:57] Like the back and forth between them was
[00:17:59] It's really grim
[00:18:00] Well, we'll save that lightness for later
[00:18:03] That's that little bit
[00:18:04] That's coming up, James
[00:18:06] You know, thoughts on culture in stuff
[00:18:14] Well, I have to say, I also...
[00:18:16] I actually think it's the best opening of a book
[00:18:18] We might have ever read that first bit
[00:18:20] That garage...
[00:18:20] Better than Carl Douglas
[00:18:22] What was Kung Fu fighting?
[00:18:26] What was that?
[00:18:27] That was last week
[00:18:27] That was Joey and Joachim last week
[00:18:29] Oh, I thought you said Carl Douglas
[00:18:31] I was like, who the hell's Carl?
[00:18:32] Yeah, he wrote Kung Fu Fighting
[00:18:33] Come on, keep up
[00:18:34] Yeah, what was that?
[00:18:35] Don't you remember who wrote Kung Fu Fighting?
[00:18:38] No
[00:18:38] We literally recorded this episode four days ago, James
[00:18:41] Oh my god
[00:18:42] It was... And we found out that
[00:18:43] Carl Douglas was Kung Fu fighting came out
[00:18:44] The same day as your birthday
[00:18:46] Before...
[00:18:46] Oh yes
[00:18:47] Yeah, there we go
[00:18:48] And the same day as Julian Joachim
[00:18:49] Joachim was...
[00:18:50] Yeah, yeah
[00:18:51] Fighting his way to his mother's womb
[00:18:53] Who is...
[00:18:54] Who's the footballer Carl?
[00:18:55] Who was you calling?
[00:18:56] Carl Douglas
[00:18:57] Oh my god
[00:18:58] Someone needs to go back and listen to Kung Fu Fighting
[00:19:01] A few times
[00:19:04] Are you clearly off of it enough for this one?
[00:19:05] Apparently everyone was Kung Fu fighting James
[00:19:07] Someone was not
[00:19:09] This kid's not fast as lightning
[00:19:12] Sorry, James
[00:19:13] Oh man
[00:19:14] Like I wrote about saying Guy Ritchie
[00:19:16] Something about Guy Ritchie
[00:19:17] No, no, but it is...
[00:19:18] It is Papa Guy Ritchie
[00:19:19] Oh, he is
[00:19:20] Oh, also I had a thought when you were saying that
[00:19:23] Doesn't he say that he owes...
[00:19:25] At some point in this book he says he owes everything to Vinnie Jones
[00:19:27] Right, I think there's something to do with it
[00:19:28] Yes, he does
[00:19:29] Oh yeah
[00:19:30] But guys...
[00:19:30] It's because...
[00:19:31] But Vinnie Jones owes everything to Guy Ritchie
[00:19:33] Yeah
[00:19:34] Oh, so therefore...
[00:19:35] He also brags about hanging out with the guys from lockstop
[00:19:38] Like he's got a real thing going on
[00:19:40] He...
[00:19:40] Oh, it's very late 90s early in order
[00:19:42] Yeah
[00:19:43] Oh, there's a spectacular scene which I'm gonna mention later
[00:19:47] Also, did you know that Guy Ritchie was
[00:19:50] Given driving ban
[00:19:51] He was caught by that guy called
[00:19:53] Cycling Mikey
[00:19:55] No, was he?
[00:19:56] You know, have you seen that Cycling Mikey guy?
[00:19:58] Yeah
[00:19:58] Did you accidentally read Guy Ritchie's book?
[00:20:02] I just read this recently
[00:20:03] Guy Ritchie was caught by that guy
[00:20:05] And he was given a six-month driving ban
[00:20:07] Who is Cycling Mikey?
[00:20:08] He's that like Jeremy Vine, Eskse Sottle
[00:20:10] What he's like...
[00:20:11] I think he's like a Dutch guy who just literally
[00:20:14] Spends all day every day going around
[00:20:15] Trying to catch people on their phones in their cars
[00:20:17] Handed it over to police
[00:20:18] There we go
[00:20:19] That old nerd
[00:20:20] You got Guy Ritchie
[00:20:21] That was the least strong opinion on a book I've ever heard
[00:20:27] Oh yeah, book was all right, yeah
[00:20:30] I do agree
[00:20:33] It is pretty well written
[00:20:34] And I did have a dig around for a ghost writer
[00:20:36] I couldn't find one so either he's hidden him very well
[00:20:39] I think he knows it
[00:20:40] He's not in my book anywhere
[00:20:41] Yeah, I couldn't see anything
[00:20:42] They normally credit them, don't they?
[00:20:44] Yeah
[00:20:44] Wait, wait, wait, wait
[00:20:46] Martin Swain
[00:20:46] Where?
[00:20:47] Literally the last sentence
[00:20:50] Finally, a big thank you to Martin Swain
[00:20:51] Who helped me with this project
[00:20:52] He first interviewed me when I had
[00:20:54] Just set off the plane to join bit
[00:20:55] All those years ago
[00:20:55] And I doubt you could have imagined the story
[00:20:57] The story of the follow
[00:20:58] He's done me proud shaping the book
[00:20:59] As such short notice
[00:21:00] Oh well done Martin Swain
[00:21:02] Because it is a very well written book
[00:21:03] It is
[00:21:04] Shout out to Martin Swain
[00:21:06] Yeah, good work
[00:21:07] Although...
[00:21:08] Can you please help me with all of my womanising?
[00:21:10] Yeah
[00:21:12] Although I must say
[00:21:13] Chapter five being called football football football
[00:21:17] They're crazy and really funny
[00:21:19] Do you think he had some really click baited titles
[00:21:22] As such chapter titles as well?
[00:21:23] Yes
[00:21:24] And a lot of them were
[00:21:25] Towards the end especially
[00:21:26] They were like
[00:21:27] I don't know what to call this one
[00:21:28] We'll just call it the last sentence in the chapter
[00:21:31] Because there are two which is
[00:21:34] During Trinidad's
[00:21:36] Trinidad and Tobago's World Cup
[00:21:38] It's even God must have been dancing
[00:21:40] Oh yes
[00:21:41] Even God must have been dancing
[00:21:42] Battle do, battle with the chapter title
[00:21:44] That's a good chapter
[00:21:45] And the one before it was
[00:21:47] What was that one before?
[00:21:48] Was it Schmeichels cigar?
[00:21:51] That's the one that annoyed me
[00:21:52] Because you're like
[00:21:52] Oh what's this funny story with the Schmeichels cigar?
[00:21:55] It just wasn't it
[00:21:56] He just still had it in his mouth
[00:21:57] At the end of the world
[00:21:58] Shenanigans
[00:21:59] I was called...
[00:22:00] The four day party was the other one
[00:22:01] Which was literally
[00:22:03] Like it's almost at the end of the chapter
[00:22:04] It's clear like Martin was like
[00:22:06] Why are we calling this one four day party?
[00:22:07] He was like
[00:22:07] Oh yeah, because
[00:22:08] I had a four day party
[00:22:09] Anyway next chapter
[00:22:12] Jack I know there's something you wanted to talk about though
[00:22:14] So I do think
[00:22:15] I was saying before you know
[00:22:16] It's about
[00:22:17] This book is a lot about destiny
[00:22:19] And it's interesting
[00:22:20] Because I wouldn't necessarily have thought that
[00:22:21] About Dwight York
[00:22:22] But like
[00:22:23] A big thing about this book
[00:22:25] Is the fact he says
[00:22:26] That when he was three years old
[00:22:28] He was in a car accident
[00:22:29] That was nearly fatal
[00:22:33] It sounds extremely
[00:22:34] Like it should have been fatal
[00:22:36] It sounds extremely fatal
[00:22:37] He does sort of say
[00:22:38] That his family
[00:22:40] Have told the story many, many times
[00:22:41] It's getting more and more embellished
[00:22:43] Yes
[00:22:43] It was going
[00:22:44] The car was going 60 miles an hour
[00:22:47] It was a monster truck
[00:22:48] It ran me over seven times
[00:22:50] He's dragged underneath it
[00:22:51] For like 100 meters or so
[00:22:52] Yeah, dragged underneath it
[00:22:53] Like his back was burned by the exhaust
[00:22:56] It's a really horrible story
[00:22:57] And it's like
[00:22:58] But what's interesting
[00:23:00] I mean
[00:23:01] There are two interesting things
[00:23:03] That come out of this
[00:23:04] One is that he was saved
[00:23:07] By someone he refers to
[00:23:08] As only the Chinaman
[00:23:11] Yes
[00:23:11] Very strange
[00:23:14] Very strange
[00:23:15] Sort of ethnically insensitive
[00:23:18] I mean
[00:23:19] The fact he also says
[00:23:20] Like this Chinese guy appeared apparently
[00:23:23] I assume he was just like
[00:23:24] To invest in a restaurant
[00:23:26] Exactly
[00:23:26] Until he was in Lushies
[00:23:28] That was my first thought
[00:23:30] What I read
[00:23:31] No, but he sort of says
[00:23:32] Like this guy was behind him being like
[00:23:34] You know, I'm the Chinaman
[00:23:35] He fixed his injuries
[00:23:37] And then he was never seen again
[00:23:39] I think he must have been just like a tourist
[00:23:41] Who gave him like a plaster
[00:23:43] And then was like
[00:23:43] There you go kid
[00:23:44] See ya
[00:23:44] Yes
[00:23:45] Or he could have been
[00:23:45] He's definitely a tourist
[00:23:46] He could have been a doctor
[00:23:48] Like yes, right
[00:23:49] He could have been a doctor
[00:23:50] Oh no, I don't doubt the injury was serious
[00:23:52] But I like the idea that just like
[00:23:54] Just a guy being like
[00:23:54] Yeah, yeah
[00:23:56] I'm going home tomorrow
[00:23:57] I'm just gonna help you
[00:23:58] And then I'm gonna go
[00:23:59] And I'm like
[00:23:59] And we never saw him again
[00:24:01] This mysterious Chinaman
[00:24:04] One word
[00:24:04] Horrible
[00:24:05] But the other thing that's interesting
[00:24:07] Is that from that point on
[00:24:09] He has a special sort of like a magical voice
[00:24:11] In the back of his head
[00:24:12] That's always saying
[00:24:13] This is your second chance to wait
[00:24:15] You have to take your second chance
[00:24:16] You've got to take your second chance to wait
[00:24:18] And it means that for the first like
[00:24:20] 20 years of his life
[00:24:21] He's extremely driven
[00:24:23] And he believes that he's been put on this earth to
[00:24:26] To do something great in football
[00:24:29] And those things include
[00:24:32] Doing head
[00:24:32] Keeping up E headers in a bin
[00:24:34] Yep, we get more depth on that finally
[00:24:36] That which was revealed by Julian Joachim
[00:24:38] Last week as well
[00:24:39] Yeah, he tricks a guy into giving him some boots
[00:24:42] Which sounds and abide by doing 100 headers
[00:24:46] Like head balls
[00:24:48] Which sounds like the kind of thing that will be in a video game
[00:24:50] You know what I mean?
[00:24:51] Haha, yeah
[00:24:52] Like as a side quest
[00:24:53] That will be like
[00:24:53] If you can do this
[00:24:54] I'll give you this special item
[00:24:57] Literally what does that
[00:24:58] I can't think about that story
[00:24:59] What does the shot keeper get out of that?
[00:25:01] Like it can't be that fun to watch a kid
[00:25:03] In a bin doing head ups
[00:25:05] That's worth 100 quid boots or whatever
[00:25:07] They are
[00:25:07] But also even if you can't do it
[00:25:09] The guy would be like
[00:25:10] Okay, I don't get anything now
[00:25:14] I get to see a kid be sad
[00:25:16] Great
[00:25:18] But then like there are other
[00:25:19] So I mean obviously Dwight York has a reputation
[00:25:21] As being very smiley
[00:25:22] Very like, you know, like being the sort of the cheeky
[00:25:25] Shappy of the of the footballing world
[00:25:27] Yep
[00:25:28] But like he doesn't drink until he's 21
[00:25:30] And he's like
[00:25:31] He's sort of
[00:25:32] He makes very often when he's younger
[00:25:33] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
[00:25:35] Oh sure, certainly
[00:25:37] But like he
[00:25:38] There's a story about when the trained Abton Tobago coach
[00:25:43] Sees him drinking like once
[00:25:45] He goes up to him and slaps him in the face
[00:25:47] And it's just like
[00:25:48] Don't throw your talent away, Dwight
[00:25:50] And Dwight's like
[00:25:50] Yeah, in the back of my head it was saying
[00:25:52] The second chance
[00:25:53] Second chance
[00:25:53] Second chance
[00:25:56] And then he goes to Aston Villa
[00:25:57] And he does well
[00:25:59] And then he gets the thing to go to every
[00:26:01] Every basically every important moment in his life
[00:26:03] There's the voice in the back of his head saying
[00:26:05] This is your second chance
[00:26:06] You've got to make something in your life
[00:26:07] You've got to take it
[00:26:09] And I feel like
[00:26:10] Like I said before
[00:26:10] In a normal book
[00:26:11] That would have been enough
[00:26:12] That would have been like
[00:26:13] The second chance told me I had to sort of
[00:26:15] Do really, really well
[00:26:17] Then I took my second chance
[00:26:18] I won the treble
[00:26:18] Hooray
[00:26:20] But actually what happens is
[00:26:21] They he wins the treble
[00:26:23] Hooray
[00:26:23] And then after that
[00:26:24] He is
[00:26:25] There's a
[00:26:25] He's basically like
[00:26:27] What do I do now?
[00:26:28] Like it feels almost like that voice in the back of his head
[00:26:31] That was saying
[00:26:32] This is your second chance
[00:26:33] You got to make the most of it
[00:26:35] Sort of when he wins the treble is like
[00:26:37] Yep, you're done
[00:26:38] Yes
[00:26:39] You've achieved
[00:26:40] You don't need to do anything else now
[00:26:42] And there's a joke that he makes to Alex Ferguson
[00:26:45] Which is like
[00:26:46] He sort of says to Alex Ferguson
[00:26:47] Wow I need a year off after that
[00:26:48] And Alex Ferguson is like
[00:26:49] Good one Dwight and Dwight's like
[00:26:50] I'm not kidding
[00:26:51] Yeah
[00:26:52] Like
[00:26:53] Like I literally
[00:26:54] I literally don't know what to do with my life now
[00:26:56] Now that I've won the treble
[00:26:57] Which was
[00:26:58] Which I've
[00:26:58] That is actually really interesting for that
[00:27:00] I thought that
[00:27:00] It's really interesting
[00:27:01] I got it at the time
[00:27:02] Yeah it's kind of
[00:27:02] It's kind of overwhelming
[00:27:03] It's so overwhelming for him
[00:27:04] That he could come from such humble beginnings
[00:27:07] To that basically
[00:27:08] Yeah
[00:27:08] To that
[00:27:08] And then suddenly you're like
[00:27:09] Okay like
[00:27:10] In a way it happens both too late in his career
[00:27:14] To sort of like
[00:27:15] To change his trajectory of his career
[00:27:17] Like it's sort of the peak
[00:27:19] And it's obviously not going to be topped
[00:27:21] So you're sort of like
[00:27:22] Where do I go from here
[00:27:23] And also it happens
[00:27:25] If it happened earlier
[00:27:26] Maybe it would have been like
[00:27:27] Okay
[00:27:27] Like David Beckham
[00:27:28] You sort of like
[00:27:29] It's your defining thing
[00:27:31] And then you go on to even greater things
[00:27:33] It's sort of fascinating
[00:27:34] And it does kind of like
[00:27:36] It does sort of mean that he is
[00:27:38] It kind of
[00:27:39] It raises an interesting question about destiny
[00:27:42] Which is once you've fulfilled your destiny
[00:27:43] What is your purpose?
[00:27:44] If you've been driven by this thing
[00:27:47] You no longer have your
[00:27:48] Your destinies been fulfilled
[00:27:49] Do you just retire?
[00:27:51] Do you do nothing?
[00:27:52] Do you like
[00:27:53] Go into the void?
[00:27:54] It's kind of
[00:27:55] It feels like a sort of a modern day retelling of
[00:28:00] The Aeneid
[00:28:01] You know like a sort of this
[00:28:03] Hey, no references to actual books
[00:28:05] Come on
[00:28:08] We warned you
[00:28:08] He's been told like
[00:28:10] This is the thing you're going to achieve
[00:28:12] He achieves it
[00:28:12] And then he's like
[00:28:13] What now?
[00:28:15] Obviously it's like the Aeneid
[00:28:16] But with fucking
[00:28:19] And three years in Sunwood
[00:28:20] I do agree with you Jack though
[00:28:22] Because I feel like he doesn't know
[00:28:25] Where his home is anymore
[00:28:28] He feels a little bit
[00:28:29] Full Nelly Fatado'd
[00:28:31] Yeah, he has and he's just
[00:28:36] That was a real slow burner
[00:28:38] It was good
[00:28:38] It was good
[00:28:39] Thank you
[00:28:39] It was good
[00:28:40] It was good
[00:28:41] But yeah
[00:28:43] Yeah
[00:28:43] But it's not
[00:28:44] But what's weird is that
[00:28:46] It should
[00:28:47] It's not even like
[00:28:48] Like sort of Jermaine Pennant
[00:28:49] Or like
[00:28:50] Are these other football books
[00:28:51] Where you're like
[00:28:52] Oh god, he had such talent
[00:28:53] And he wasted it
[00:28:54] Because he didn't waste it
[00:28:55] It's just this weird thing
[00:28:56] Where he's like
[00:28:57] He's achieved everything
[00:28:58] And he doesn't know what to do
[00:29:00] And it does just
[00:29:02] It leaves him unmoored
[00:29:03] And as you said
[00:29:04] And that's sort of then
[00:29:05] When the problems begin with
[00:29:06] And he's not that young when it happens
[00:29:08] Sorry, sorry Jack
[00:29:09] You're gonna say
[00:29:09] No, no, no, no
[00:29:10] It's true
[00:29:10] He isn't that young
[00:29:11] And I think that's an important thing
[00:29:12] There isn't the sort of
[00:29:13] There isn't the drive to go
[00:29:15] I've got to go
[00:29:16] You know
[00:29:16] I've got to now go on
[00:29:17] And do even more great things
[00:29:20] He doesn't have the Roy Keene personality
[00:29:22] Of I can never be happy
[00:29:24] Therefore
[00:29:25] I have to keep on trying
[00:29:26] And trying and trying
[00:29:27] He's kind of like
[00:29:28] Well
[00:29:28] That's it
[00:29:29] I've sort of, you know
[00:29:30] Like I was spurred on by this voice
[00:29:32] In the back of my head
[00:29:33] And Brian Lara
[00:29:34] Those two things
[00:29:36] And now Brian Lara is sort of
[00:29:38] You know, he's like
[00:29:39] Well, you've done everything
[00:29:40] And the voice has sort of gone
[00:29:43] It kind of
[00:29:43] It means that the years afterwards
[00:29:45] When he gets mugged in the funky Buddha
[00:29:47] And like the misogynistic attitude
[00:29:49] Towards women
[00:29:49] Yeah
[00:29:50] Like it comes
[00:29:51] It's not to say
[00:29:52] That it's justified by what's happened
[00:29:53] But like
[00:29:54] It just sort of
[00:29:55] It feels like there's a big empty void
[00:29:56] Where like
[00:29:58] Where the next stage of his life should be
[00:30:00] And he doesn't really have a home anymore
[00:30:03] And there's clearly a guilt that he has
[00:30:04] Where he isn't going back to Trinidad enough
[00:30:06] Or Trinidad and Tobago enough
[00:30:08] And he feels a huge family guilt
[00:30:10] When one of his family members dies
[00:30:11] I mean, there's just so much going on in this book
[00:30:14] I do think it's
[00:30:15] Yeah
[00:30:16] It's
[00:30:17] It is
[00:30:18] It's compelling and good
[00:30:20] Whilst also incredibly problematic
[00:30:22] Are you saying if he hadn't gone out to party
[00:30:24] After the treble
[00:30:25] And he really go that high off the treble
[00:30:27] That he might have won another treble
[00:30:29] Basically he seems to get addicted to partying
[00:30:30] Basically from like
[00:30:32] He was celebrating
[00:30:33] He gets addicted to that feeling of celebration
[00:30:35] And just never happened
[00:30:36] Well, he's sort of
[00:30:37] He's partying it
[00:30:38] Because like after he says
[00:30:39] Like I'm not drinking till I'm 21
[00:30:42] Like he then does drink after he's 21
[00:30:45] When he's at Aston Villa
[00:30:45] He does a series of horrible things
[00:30:47] Like with
[00:30:49] With Mark Bosnich
[00:30:50] That I'm sure we're going to talk about
[00:30:51] Yes, we are
[00:30:52] Like
[00:30:53] But like
[00:30:54] So it's not as if like
[00:30:56] The treble was the thing that was like
[00:30:58] You know
[00:30:58] The concept of partying was open to him
[00:31:00] Once he had achieved everything
[00:31:01] It's just that
[00:31:02] It's like
[00:31:03] And also he does well in his season
[00:31:05] The season afterwards
[00:31:05] He does well in the season after that as well
[00:31:07] It just sort of then all falls apart
[00:31:09] In a kind of confusing way
[00:31:12] Yeah
[00:31:12] Yeah, I
[00:31:13] It's quite
[00:31:14] It's quite hard to cipher
[00:31:15] But also
[00:31:16] It does just raise interesting sort of questions about like
[00:31:19] What is the point of any of this
[00:31:20] So once you've achieved the very very best
[00:31:23] What is the point of any of this
[00:31:24] I'm glad that
[00:31:25] This is kind of the antithesis to Roy Keane and that
[00:31:27] Because that made you think a lot
[00:31:29] That made me so angry
[00:31:30] He's made you think a lot
[00:31:31] And one thing I do want to mention when he was a kid though
[00:31:33] Which
[00:31:34] I pretty may be laugh
[00:31:35] He talks about Selwyn Archer
[00:31:37] Was his neighbour
[00:31:39] Yeah
[00:31:39] And did you
[00:31:40] Do you have any noticed
[00:31:42] This little mistake in the book he says
[00:31:44] Selwyn Archer
[00:31:46] Knew my family's financial struggles
[00:31:47] Help me fund the Cross Island adventures
[00:31:49] On one occasion
[00:31:50] He took me to see the Brazilian team
[00:31:51] Flamingo
[00:31:52] Play a friendly guest
[00:31:57] How come on
[00:31:59] That's what that's one mark off Martin Swain for
[00:32:02] Letting auto correct
[00:32:05] Change Flamingo
[00:32:06] I've just got
[00:32:07] I've got so much womanizing to sort out here
[00:32:08] I don't have time to deal with Flamingo
[00:32:14] So after the treble
[00:32:16] I'm going to move on to something
[00:32:19] That he possibly actually
[00:32:22] Spends more time talking about for reasons
[00:32:24] We probably will already understand from our opening
[00:32:28] Gambit
[00:32:29] He talks possibly more about a certain quadruple
[00:32:33] Than the treble
[00:32:35] It seems like in this book
[00:32:37] And that quadruple being
[00:32:39] Apparently a quite well known story at the time of Dwight having sex with four women
[00:32:43] In 24 hours
[00:32:45] And actually it's quite misleading because he has
[00:32:46] What takes one woman the first 13
[00:32:49] And then it's like 3 and 11, which is the really
[00:32:52] It was one every six hours
[00:32:53] That'll be kind of
[00:32:54] That's like
[00:32:54] Is that often the way to answer
[00:32:56] Sorry, you can say
[00:32:56] Is that usually how it goes
[00:33:00] In my experience
[00:33:01] I was going to say it's like
[00:33:02] It's like in football matches when they're like
[00:33:04] You know, it's like one nil after a half time
[00:33:06] And then suddenly in the second half
[00:33:07] They just score a little over the most
[00:33:08] Or you can have sex with four women
[00:33:10] The first like two hours and then just like
[00:33:12] You coast for the next 20 years
[00:33:13] And everyone around she's like
[00:33:14] Here we go
[00:33:15] He's going to break the record
[00:33:16] And then it just kind of like pieces out
[00:33:17] No, no, no, no
[00:33:18] Yeah
[00:33:19] Yeah, that is
[00:33:22] He really does go into a lot of that
[00:33:24] And he says it's very
[00:33:24] Very upfront at the beginning
[00:33:26] He's like he's not interested in commitment
[00:33:28] As a few people know all too well
[00:33:30] He just wants to have fun
[00:33:31] And yeah, in this story it's like
[00:33:35] The first one's on night out
[00:33:36] Then there's a married woman
[00:33:37] It gets like progressively worse
[00:33:39] The second one is
[00:33:40] In some kind of
[00:33:42] Relation
[00:33:42] Oh, the second one's got to pick up their kid
[00:33:44] That's it
[00:33:44] Like an hour
[00:33:45] Third one
[00:33:47] He meets someone at 6pm who's married
[00:33:50] He talks about them like Amazon packages
[00:33:51] That's what I thought
[00:33:52] Like they kind of come at different
[00:33:54] He's like between about 5.45 and 6
[00:33:56] The next one came
[00:33:58] That was left for my neighbour next door
[00:34:00] Then
[00:34:01] But he says like it's not unusual at the time
[00:34:05] But Jack, you alluded to something
[00:34:06] Which I think is unusual
[00:34:09] In his sex life
[00:34:10] It's on page 63
[00:34:12] Basically
[00:34:13] It all seems to take a bit of a turn
[00:34:14] Once he meets Mark Bosnich
[00:34:17] By now my crew have been joined by the Australian
[00:34:19] Girlkeeper, Mark Bosnich
[00:34:20] A character who shared
[00:34:20] I love a fun adventure when the hard work had stopped
[00:34:23] They were having fun with some girls
[00:34:26] As it seems to be happening on every single page
[00:34:28] Now a few weeks before this
[00:34:30] A technician pal of mine
[00:34:31] I knew only as Keith
[00:34:33] Like protecting his identity
[00:34:35] Kind of
[00:34:36] Had been around to fix me up with Skyma Bedroom TV
[00:34:38] That already had access to several porn channels
[00:34:40] Very, very upfront about this
[00:34:42] It's a surprise
[00:34:42] So
[00:34:43] It's so partridge-less
[00:34:44] I know what you always say
[00:34:45] It is
[00:34:46] But the whole like
[00:34:47] Yeah, he's just
[00:34:48] Even though he's apparently this, you know
[00:34:50] Sex god
[00:34:51] Like the way he speaks is very much like
[00:34:53] He's got porn on my channel
[00:34:54] I want porn on my TV
[00:34:56] And also
[00:34:56] Keith's got porn on my telly
[00:34:59] Keith, can you make porn come back on my telly?
[00:35:03] And then Keith apparently goes
[00:35:05] He asked me if I was aware that I could get a camera link
[00:35:07] From downstairs up to my bedroom
[00:35:09] This is- it does get sinister here
[00:35:10] And I thought to myself
[00:35:11] It's really sinister
[00:35:12] Yeah, why not?
[00:35:12] I was a young man
[00:35:13] Now for ever more interesting experiences
[00:35:15] Yeah, like recreating fucking sore
[00:35:17] That is how this is
[00:35:21] He says he says he says
[00:35:23] He says he hasn't thought about that
[00:35:24] Or taping anything before
[00:35:25] But then he thinks
[00:35:26] He says
[00:35:27] Bozzy
[00:35:28] Who has a freak nature
[00:35:31] Like convinces them to do it
[00:35:33] They start wearing the women's clothes
[00:35:35] And the men start-
[00:35:36] Women start wearing the men's clothes
[00:35:38] I think one or two of us might have been hoping
[00:35:40] It would turn into an orgy
[00:35:41] But that never happened
[00:35:42] Bozzy got into some spanking and toe sucking
[00:35:44] And what have you
[00:35:45] Which is all very freaky
[00:35:47] Again, he talks like
[00:35:48] That sounds so nappy
[00:35:49] Doesn't sound like a womanizer saying
[00:35:50] It's like yeah
[00:35:51] Sucking toes how freaky
[00:35:52] Yeah
[00:35:53] Oh, what a freaky thing to do, Bozzy
[00:35:56] Save some of that spanking for me
[00:35:57] He's gone from-
[00:35:59] He's gone from-
[00:36:02] Alan Partridge to Austin Powers
[00:36:03] The other AP
[00:36:06] Yeah, then it kind of fizzled out
[00:36:08] Basically
[00:36:08] But that-
[00:36:08] I love the idea that it fizzled out
[00:36:10] Yeah, it just-
[00:36:10] It just-
[00:36:11] Sorry, just like-
[00:36:11] He says only one got lucky
[00:36:12] Toe sucking
[00:36:13] Spanking
[00:36:14] We're done
[00:36:16] But then that video gets out apparently
[00:36:18] But it must have been just weird to watch him up, wasn't it?
[00:36:20] What's so weird?
[00:36:21] Wearing a bra and sucking some poor woman's toes
[00:36:24] Very odd, very odd
[00:36:26] But I think that scene
[00:36:28] And a lot of the book makes all that kind of
[00:36:30] Playboy lifestyle sound so unappealing
[00:36:32] And so uninteresting
[00:36:33] It's actually pressivary, does it?
[00:36:35] There's this incredible bit
[00:36:37] Where he goes to a party
[00:36:39] He's like-
[00:36:40] And the who's who
[00:36:42] Of all the high rollers
[00:36:43] Were there
[00:36:44] Actors, sports stars
[00:36:45] I can be chatting with Colin Montgomery
[00:36:47] Alongside the cast of Coronation Street
[00:36:51] Like it just sells rubbish
[00:36:54] Colin Montgomery and Les Bassesby
[00:37:00] Wow
[00:37:02] He even makes a-
[00:37:03] He's even one bit later on where he gets a concord
[00:37:05] And for some reason assumes that a concord is like a sex-
[00:37:08] Like a flying sex plane
[00:37:10] That plane, yeah
[00:37:11] Welcome to the sex plane
[00:37:12] And it's just a bunch of old men
[00:37:13] He goes like-
[00:37:14] He goes, oh, I was really disappointed
[00:37:15] It's everything
[00:37:17] And then he's like-
[00:37:17] The pilot was like, do you want to come see me land the plane?
[00:37:19] He's like, do I?
[00:37:21] It is very-
[00:37:22] The whole thing is very depressing
[00:37:23] The four women in 24 hours
[00:37:24] Does sound just like a really sad version of Mumbo number five
[00:37:29] Like-
[00:37:29] Oh god
[00:37:31] A little bit of married woman at six o'clock
[00:37:34] And then I move on to the woman
[00:37:36] I have to kick up her kids
[00:37:37] But like it is just-
[00:37:39] It-
[00:37:40] Yeah, the whole thing just comes across as quite sad in a lot of ways
[00:37:44] And I don't know whether he's trying to-
[00:37:48] I don't know
[00:37:48] Maybe I shouldn't give Martin that much credit
[00:37:50] Maybe Martin needs more-
[00:37:53] But yeah, maybe Martin's too buttoned up
[00:37:56] And that was what's making it
[00:37:57] But it just-
[00:37:57] Isn't it bleak?
[00:37:58] It makes something feel quite sad
[00:37:59] It is very bleak
[00:38:00] It is bleak and given how everything, like you say, kind of unravels
[00:38:03] Not to the point where he's like destitute or anything
[00:38:04] He's living a great life now, I think still
[00:38:06] Yeah
[00:38:08] I think he was-
[00:38:09] I read- I did really-
[00:38:10] He was declared bankrupt years ago
[00:38:11] But now he seems to have money again
[00:38:13] No, he avoided bankrupts
[00:38:14] That was it, sorry, James
[00:38:16] Yes
[00:38:16] By paying 1.5 million
[00:38:18] That was it
[00:38:18] In owed tax
[00:38:19] You read the same Sun article I read as well
[00:38:23] But yes, I think it's exactly what Gav wanted
[00:38:27] From the beginning
[00:38:28] Remember Gav?
[00:38:30] But then is Gav thinking
[00:38:31] Yes!
[00:38:32] Yeah, excellent
[00:38:33] He's like, oh I would love that
[00:38:34] Toad's not boss, let's just suck my toe
[00:38:36] He says what Gav was saying
[00:38:38] Has anyone got an out of context, Dwight York, for me?
[00:38:40] Yes, and I think we might all have the same one
[00:38:43] Yeah, alright
[00:38:43] Okay, because I texted the group saying it's my favorite ever out of context
[00:38:47] What's your question going to be, Tash?
[00:38:49] Shall we say what word it begins with to see if we've got the same one?
[00:38:52] Depends where we started
[00:38:53] Because I've started maybe the sentence before
[00:38:56] I've just taken the one sentence
[00:38:59] Okay, let's see-
[00:39:00] Tash, I feel like you might have a different one
[00:39:02] Or James, if you-
[00:39:03] You'll really?
[00:39:03] Yeah, maybe
[00:39:04] Just got a vibe
[00:39:05] Getting a vibe, Tash, from up between us
[00:39:08] Got slightly different-
[00:39:10] Got slightly different one
[00:39:13] I mean, mine is my favorite one we've ever had
[00:39:15] Okay, this is good
[00:39:15] From my point of view as well
[00:39:16] This is good
[00:39:17] Well, this is very good
[00:39:18] Yeah
[00:39:19] You go ahead, Tash then
[00:39:20] Let's hear it
[00:39:21] Okay
[00:39:22] I would go and have a great night out
[00:39:24] And end up with a woman who would then be left amazed
[00:39:26] By me getting out of bed after sex to do 100 sit ups and press ups
[00:39:30] That's not the same one, but that is a great line
[00:39:32] It's the same one
[00:39:34] A Patrick Bateman over it
[00:39:35] Yeah, it really is
[00:39:37] And that's after he's had sex so many times in the book
[00:39:40] He just drops that in
[00:39:41] He drops that in
[00:39:42] There's that
[00:39:43] James, did you have one?
[00:39:45] I don't want to go-
[00:39:46] Wait, I don't want to go next
[00:39:48] Okay, Jack, find it
[00:39:50] I-
[00:39:50] Because I texted him and now I can't find it
[00:39:52] Okay
[00:39:53] You text Dwight, yo
[00:39:54] I've got it
[00:39:54] Do you want me to read it at Jack?
[00:39:55] What I think-
[00:39:56] What-
[00:39:56] And you can tell me if you think it's the same one
[00:39:58] I'm sure it's the exact same one
[00:39:59] I'm sure it is
[00:40:01] I moved to a six bedroom house in the footballer's suburb
[00:40:05] Yeah, it's the same one
[00:40:06] In the footballer's suburb of Alderley Edge
[00:40:09] Where there was much more seclusion from prying eyes
[00:40:13] We enjoyed a memorable household party
[00:40:22] In which one of our younger players, Quinton Fortune, became so spooked by the tricks of a magician
[00:40:28] I hired him, he had to leave
[00:40:30] Hahaha
[00:40:43] Is this your card?
[00:40:44] I must go, I have to go, I'm sorry
[00:40:48] It's so good
[00:40:50] I was howling with laughter when I read that line
[00:40:54] Oh, Quinton, you delicate boy
[00:40:57] What delicate boy?
[00:40:59] Oh
[00:40:59] Hang on, I had another one because my one is
[00:41:02] I think the only other conversation I had with Peter Andre
[00:41:05] was when he offered to make me a coffee of his own recipe
[00:41:08] which when you taste it will make you-
[00:41:16] Which when you taste it will make you never want to have alcohol again
[00:41:19] I just looked at him gone out
[00:41:21] What's this bloke going on about?
[00:41:24] That is a great one as well
[00:41:28] It's such a funny one
[00:41:29] Hahaha
[00:41:31] Oh, sorry
[00:41:32] I've actually got my own recipe for coffee, Dwight
[00:41:36] What the fuck are you talking about?
[00:41:40] Oh yeah
[00:41:44] What could that mean?
[00:41:46] It don't know
[00:41:48] I put the Nescafe in first
[00:41:52] Um, James, do you have one?
[00:41:54] I've got an alternative on you
[00:41:57] This one really made me laugh
[00:41:58] I left a garbled message trying to express all I had to say
[00:42:02] but I felt like a bit of a geek speaking into a machine
[00:42:07] Why?
[00:42:07] Why does that make you feel geeky?
[00:42:08] Like recording in a voice mail
[00:42:10] He was like a geek
[00:42:11] Yeah, I think it was to Graham Taylor, wasn't it?
[00:42:13] It was to Graham Taylor over there
[00:42:14] It was to Graham Taylor when he was moving to Manchester United
[00:42:17] Wasn't it?
[00:42:19] It was like on the eve of the final maybe
[00:42:22] The Champions League final
[00:42:22] Oh yeah, yeah
[00:42:23] They tried to ring him and say thanks, Gaffa
[00:42:25] Yes
[00:42:26] They got their voice
[00:42:28] Yeah
[00:42:29] I felt like a bit of a geek speaking to a machine
[00:42:32] What are you talking about, Dwight?
[00:42:35] He's not going to go on that podcast then
[00:42:37] No, very true, very true
[00:42:40] Podcast?
[00:42:41] Geekland?
[00:42:42] Which is actually one of the ones
[00:42:43] Yep
[00:42:45] One of them that I like
[00:42:45] Go on
[00:42:46] As it went skywards, there would just be more running commentary
[00:42:49] That's BigFash's ball
[00:42:50] That's a big fash, baby
[00:42:51] Come to BigFash, baby
[00:42:54] That was very um, what was it?
[00:42:56] The Big Man's Back
[00:42:57] When Rooney when he marched into training
[00:42:59] Yeah, that is very Rooney
[00:43:02] Well, time now for a break
[00:43:03] But when we return, we'll be revisiting the 90s

[00:46:54] Welcome back to Football Book Club
[00:46:56] Where we are still reading Dwight York's Born to Score
[00:46:59] Having said that, Terrell, many times now
[00:47:01] Do we think it's a double entendre?
[00:47:04] I actually have an alternative name that you should have called it
[00:47:08] Yeah?
[00:47:08] Yorkie, not for girls
[00:47:11] Oh, that is good
[00:47:13] That's very good
[00:47:14] That is very good
[00:47:15] Yeah, I can kind of see the cover as well
[00:47:17] Like a kind of terribly photoshopped chocolate bar
[00:47:21] But then go
[00:47:22] Yeah
[00:47:28] Quit unfortunate
[00:47:31] Time to go
[00:47:35] Tash?
[00:47:36] Yes
[00:47:36] Saying on that subject of not being for girls
[00:47:40] Let's talk to the 90s most well-known girl
[00:47:45] On these shores
[00:47:46] So, I mean, I did struggle to separate the art from the artist here
[00:47:53] So I did try and come up with some points that weren't just me
[00:47:57] Calling him a C-next Tuesday
[00:48:00] Because as I said before, I do think that
[00:48:04] Some of it is a bit too dark
[00:48:06] And I don't think we should go into it
[00:48:07] Because he does
[00:48:10] It was very, very toxic
[00:48:12] It was very off the time
[00:48:13] And I think we should leave some of it in the past
[00:48:16] With many of the Harvey related things
[00:48:19] We're talking
[00:48:19] The Harvey related things
[00:48:21] They're very sad
[00:48:22] It's very sad
[00:48:22] He's very sad, very sad
[00:48:24] And the trip that they took to Monaco
[00:48:26] I think sounds horrendous
[00:48:29] Just so anyone knows
[00:48:30] Or was that in Barbados?
[00:48:31] Which one was that in Barbados?
[00:48:33] But before they go to Barbados
[00:48:36] They go to Monaco before they split up
[00:48:38] And he takes her to Monaco
[00:48:44] And he basically ditches her
[00:48:47] So that he can pull Rod Stewart's X, Y
[00:48:51] For an unnamed married couple
[00:48:52] Oh yeah, that's very strange
[00:48:54] And he leaves her in the hotel room
[00:48:55] And it's just all very sad
[00:48:57] It's all very mean
[00:48:58] It's incredibly sad
[00:48:59] Yeah, I agree
[00:49:00] But we'll stick to that
[00:49:02] In my attempt to not rant about him
[00:49:04] For 10 minutes
[00:49:05] I did try and find some things
[00:49:07] So first things first
[00:49:09] I put my linguistics degree to use
[00:49:11] Because this man is the master of all
[00:49:14] Or maybe it's the ghost writer
[00:49:16] But using the passive voice
[00:49:19] You could read this book
[00:49:20] And think that this man has had the hardest time ever
[00:49:23] Like he's been targeted by managers
[00:49:25] He's been used by women
[00:49:26] He's been forced to have babies against his will
[00:49:28] Like it's a whole thing
[00:49:30] Where he never says
[00:49:32] I did this
[00:49:33] It's always this happened to me
[00:49:35] Always
[00:49:36] Unless it's things where he's talking about
[00:49:38] Unless it's things that are good
[00:49:39] Yeah
[00:49:42] Yeah, I was shagging
[00:49:43] But then she had a baby
[00:49:45] And I didn't
[00:49:45] You know, it's very
[00:49:47] That's a very good point
[00:49:48] The end of good distinction
[00:49:48] But yeah
[00:49:49] It's quite hard to do
[00:49:51] Consistently in that way
[00:49:52] So fair play to him for that
[00:49:54] And secondly
[00:49:56] I do have to applaud his honesty
[00:49:57] Because it is quite funny in places
[00:50:00] Like I can't believe how brazenly he names people
[00:50:04] You know, with the Ashley Cole one
[00:50:06] I was trawling dailymail.com for the dates
[00:50:09] That he was going out with someone to try and work out
[00:50:11] Who it was
[00:50:12] Dwight doesn't give a f**k
[00:50:14] And he's just
[00:50:15] He's just saying it
[00:50:16] Like yeah
[00:50:18] The Peter Andre stuff is really good
[00:50:19] Where the one laugh that he did get out of me was
[00:50:22] He says the first time that he met him
[00:50:24] He wanted to throttle him
[00:50:25] And it was really creepy
[00:50:27] Yes, perfect
[00:50:28] This is what we want
[00:50:29] Agreed
[00:50:29] Like when it's
[00:50:31] When he's being a petty little b**ch
[00:50:33] It's really funny
[00:50:35] Like before he delves into being horrible
[00:50:37] When he is being a little bit petty
[00:50:39] He can be funny
[00:50:40] For example
[00:50:41] Also
[00:50:42] Why does this man not learn to drive?
[00:50:44] Why?
[00:50:45] Yeah
[00:50:45] Or why can't he drive?
[00:50:47] Yeah
[00:50:47] That's just
[00:50:47] Well because he can't drive
[00:50:49] And have sex in the back of a car
[00:50:51] At the same time
[00:50:52] Oh, very true
[00:50:53] Yeah, I thought he did it
[00:50:53] I thought about doing that
[00:50:54] Yeah, the number of
[00:50:56] The number of stories that were
[00:50:58] That guy in gloves
[00:50:59] He had a back of a car
[00:51:00] Yeah, yeah
[00:51:00] And being like
[00:51:01] That taxi drive was sound
[00:51:02] Because he didn't go to the press
[00:51:04] When I was clearly having sex with him
[00:51:05] More than in the back of his taxi
[00:51:07] Dwight
[00:51:08] But he did
[00:51:09] He did record it all the way
[00:51:11] And we watched it
[00:51:12] We watched it on my Sky TV
[00:51:13] Several times
[00:51:16] Oh, God
[00:51:17] But there is a really funny bit
[00:51:19] Where he's sat in the back of Peter Andre's car
[00:51:22] Well
[00:51:22] Oh, yeah
[00:51:23] Peter Price and Peter are sat in the front
[00:51:25] And they're driving him to a park
[00:51:27] So we can walk around with Harvey
[00:51:29] Would you not get a taxi
[00:51:31] Rather than get in the car with your
[00:51:33] At that point in their relationship
[00:51:34] And Peter
[00:51:35] Oh, yeah
[00:51:35] You would, wouldn't you?
[00:51:37] And he's sat
[00:51:37] He's like
[00:51:38] In the book
[00:51:38] He's like
[00:51:39] Oh, God, it was such an awful journey
[00:51:40] I'm like
[00:51:41] Yes
[00:51:41] Of course
[00:51:42] Of course it was
[00:51:43] That's sitting in the back of your taxi
[00:51:44] Like a little kid
[00:51:45] As well
[00:51:47] Peter Andre is driving
[00:51:48] He's talking about special coffee
[00:51:52] I bet Peter does that thing
[00:51:54] Where he like
[00:51:54] Puts his arm behind the head
[00:51:56] Oh, definitely
[00:51:57] Yeah
[00:51:57] Now, me and Katie have been having a little chat
[00:51:59] Virtually before
[00:52:01] And we don't think you've been treating our little kid too well
[00:52:06] Something's still here
[00:52:08] I did
[00:52:10] I found like in my research around this
[00:52:12] I did find a Reddit thread though
[00:52:15] Of people who had
[00:52:16] That it was kind of anonymized
[00:52:20] If you'd ever like slept with a footballer
[00:52:22] And one of them did say
[00:52:25] That a footballer that I think is Dwight York
[00:52:28] Used a very funny chat up line on it
[00:52:31] And I want you to see if you can
[00:52:33] Guess the second bit
[00:52:34] Okay
[00:52:35] So the first bit is
[00:52:37] You can call me Arsenal
[00:52:39] Um
[00:52:41] Because I always promise a lot but ultimately
[00:52:44] I'm all out of time
[00:52:51] Because I'll be really good for 36 games
[00:52:54] For the last few
[00:52:55] Well, do you know what?
[00:52:56] You're not far off
[00:52:58] Yeah
[00:52:58] What is it?
[00:52:59] I start on top but finish second
[00:53:01] Mmm
[00:53:02] Oh that's not fun
[00:53:03] That's a good way of doing it
[00:53:04] Yeah, that's a good way of doing it
[00:53:05] Yeah
[00:53:06] And I think that
[00:53:08] Just from what she said
[00:53:10] I think that was Dwight York
[00:53:11] I think it was him
[00:53:12] Well, it was actually called during his arson.
[00:53:16] Yeah.
[00:53:17] But I think, yeah, the Harvey stuff, the Jordan stuff, I mean, I listened to Jordan's podcast
[00:53:26] to sort of get a sense of what was going on and read a bit of her mum's autobiography.
[00:53:32] And he does talk about Katie Price's mum in a nice way.
[00:53:37] However, she does not reciprocate that in her book.
[00:53:40] So I do think maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle ground.
[00:53:43] Well, actually, I read a few...
[00:53:45] I mean, I'm sure you're totally right with that.
[00:53:46] But I read a few things at the time it seemed like that the mum was quite...
[00:53:50] At the time, yeah.
[00:53:51] Yeah, because the mum said...
[00:53:52] I saw a few things where she actually did say that I liked Dwight and he was my favourite...
[00:53:56] You wouldn't believe it, but he was my favourite of her boyfriend around that time.
[00:54:00] Yeah.
[00:54:01] I think probably since this happened, all the Harvey stuff has maybe tainted it a bit more.
[00:54:06] Yeah, she's definitely said a lot of things since as well.
[00:54:08] Yeah, I just wish he would have taken Fergie's advice and stopped splashing his life all over
[00:54:17] the place and concentrated on football because he's not...
[00:54:21] I don't know.
[00:54:22] He doesn't take it well when he leaves us.
[00:54:24] And I think we know why because he does talk about that.
[00:54:27] Do you remember Rhonda?
[00:54:29] Yes!
[00:54:30] At school.
[00:54:31] Yes.
[00:54:32] Rhonda.
[00:54:33] And I think that's where this all started.
[00:54:35] So Rhonda was his first girlfriend and he says, up until this point everyone wanted to know
[00:54:39] him.
[00:54:40] He was like...
[00:54:41] It was like the jock going out with a cheerleader I think he says.
[00:54:45] And then he caught her publicly cheating on him when he's like 16 or something and she
[00:54:51] broke his heart.
[00:54:53] And from that point, I do think that she sort of ruined him in that way.
[00:55:00] Like he couldn't...
[00:55:01] He then couldn't form that bond because he couldn't trust women.
[00:55:03] He says it.
[00:55:04] I think he says he can't trust women after that point.
[00:55:07] He can't trust anyone.
[00:55:08] I think he's specific as women, but you're right.
[00:55:09] That definitely is the case with women.
[00:55:11] Yeah.
[00:55:12] It feels like he's definitely setting the scene though, if that makes sense.
[00:55:15] That's true.
[00:55:16] He names the entire chapter after Rhonda.
[00:55:17] It definitely feels like I'm going like, hey, there's going to be some bad stuff
[00:55:20] and I'm going to blame it on this girl.
[00:55:22] The reason I'm having women is because of women.
[00:55:25] It's kind of going back to my first point in that he's very passive in the whole
[00:55:29] thing.
[00:55:30] I think he's going to give me a lot of credit to him and whatever, but I think
[00:55:34] if I'm going to give him any credit and I really begrudge doing it, but the man
[00:55:38] did once buy me a can of coke.
[00:55:39] So Rhonda, wherever you are, you created a monster.
[00:55:43] Rhonda.
[00:55:44] Rhonda.
[00:55:45] Rhonda.
[00:55:46] And he does go at length to like say, like, this isn't actually the case.
[00:55:52] I did try to...
[00:55:53] I know we don't want to get into the Harvey stuff too much, but he does say,
[00:55:55] you know, X ways that I was trying to do this and then K says the opposite
[00:55:58] of that.
[00:55:59] So it's very hard to tell that.
[00:56:00] Yeah, I mean, he does actually say near to the end.
[00:56:04] I think I wrote it down.
[00:56:05] Oh yeah.
[00:56:06] I have seen far too little of Harvey, but that is because the whole experience
[00:56:09] has been so negative and unpleasant.
[00:56:10] I've had no enthusiasm to take it on.
[00:56:13] Like again, that's not really...
[00:56:16] Yeah, that's not really a reason.
[00:56:18] He doesn't help himself elsewhere with the not caring things.
[00:56:21] Because even this like his next partner who's got a kid with who he is
[00:56:24] quite besotted with, not to be in like a total relationship with them, but
[00:56:28] you know, he seems to quite like them at least.
[00:56:30] But he doesn't help himself because she goes into labor and he can't remember
[00:56:35] the hospital she told him.
[00:56:36] And then he says like, and he can't ask her parents because of issues.
[00:56:39] Like he says it's all...
[00:56:41] Yeah, that doesn't help.
[00:56:42] Yeah.
[00:56:43] And then there's a lot of vagueness throughout this.
[00:56:45] There's a lot of like understatements where he's like,
[00:56:47] I've not been the best father or like, I can't say I was the best partner.
[00:56:51] And you're like, yes.
[00:56:52] Yeah.
[00:56:53] And agreed.
[00:56:56] And also he's not very...
[00:56:58] Throughout the book, he always goes like, oh, I don't know how much I spent.
[00:57:00] Oh, I could spend any like, oh, that bar tab, it could have been anything.
[00:57:03] I didn't look at the bills at that point.
[00:57:05] And then he very meticulously breaks down his apparent payments to Harvey,
[00:57:08] which may or may not...
[00:57:09] They might be true.
[00:57:10] I've no idea.
[00:57:12] But that just is quite inconsistent with the rest of the book.
[00:57:14] That's a good point.
[00:57:15] Yeah.
[00:57:16] He's very much splashing the cash out for those.
[00:57:18] For this computer, for his school and stuff like that.
[00:57:21] And it's...
[00:57:22] I do...
[00:57:23] I mean, like the only thing I can think is that...
[00:57:25] And it sort of goes back to what James was saying.
[00:57:27] It's like, I have no doubt that he is...
[00:57:29] I think he is the wronger as opposed to the wrongie.
[00:57:33] I think that he's a very petty man.
[00:57:35] I can also see that if you were...
[00:57:37] If you are trying to answer back for it,
[00:57:40] then I can see that this would be sort of being like,
[00:57:42] I'm going to give you an itemized bill of all the things I've done.
[00:57:44] Yes.
[00:57:45] It doesn't sound good and you shouldn't put it in your footballing book
[00:57:50] where you basically say like, look how much I love my son.
[00:57:52] I bought him this computer and this thing and this thing.
[00:57:55] But I can also see that if maybe he...
[00:57:58] If he feels like this tabloid stuff has been, you know,
[00:58:01] relentlessly negative, he's trying to say his own piece.
[00:58:04] But...
[00:58:06] Oh, it's just so messy.
[00:58:07] It's so messy and so gross and so sad.
[00:58:10] It is. And it's so sad for the child.
[00:58:12] That's the saddest thing of all.
[00:58:13] But it's also...
[00:58:14] One thing that I would say is that...
[00:58:18] I think I'm not saying any way that Dwight has behaved well.
[00:58:21] He hasn't, I'm sure throughout it.
[00:58:23] I don't know how he's behaved really, but I'm sure it hasn't been good.
[00:58:26] However, I do think with a...
[00:58:28] In a relationship where everything is splashed over the tabloids,
[00:58:30] there's so much hearsay in this and, you know,
[00:58:32] Katie Brice's career at the time was effectively,
[00:58:35] you know, selling these quotes to the papers and stuff like that.
[00:58:37] And blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
[00:58:38] It must be such a hard environment anyway
[00:58:40] to have a relationship with someone working that way.
[00:58:43] So I do think it must be...
[00:58:46] It's so explosive.
[00:58:47] Everything is there.
[00:58:48] You can see now why so many footballers
[00:58:52] choose not to date people in the public eye.
[00:58:54] I mean, like it just...
[00:58:56] That era, I don't think we'll ever get again.
[00:58:59] No, yeah. It was kind of fun when you think about it.
[00:59:02] I do think about it. It's not really actually fun.
[00:59:04] At the time. Yeah, exactly.
[00:59:06] Well, that became its own sport, really, didn't it?
[00:59:09] Like watching that play out as well.
[00:59:14] Whereas now, yeah, I just...
[00:59:16] And I don't know.
[00:59:17] I just don't think people would stand for it anymore.
[00:59:20] I agree. But yeah.
[00:59:21] There's too many innocent souls like Quinton Fortune.
[00:59:25] Too many sober vegan footballers, in my opinion.
[00:59:29] We need some top shaggers back.
[00:59:32] We need to get them back.
[00:59:35] Not this far, but just like mid-level shaggers.
[00:59:39] Mid-level shaggers.
[00:59:41] And flexitarians.
[00:59:44] That's what you have had sex with one woman in the last 24 hours.
[00:59:50] And a bean burger.
[00:59:54] Sex with a bean burger.
[01:00:02] Oh, I just wanted to talk about how...
[01:00:05] Well, I mean, we've touched upon it quite a lot already,
[01:00:08] but just a big kid, isn't he?
[01:00:10] And we see this a lot with football players.
[01:00:12] Yes.
[01:00:14] But the way he talks about it is just...
[01:00:17] Like spending all his money on duplicate clothing for one thing.
[01:00:21] Saying that, you know, like,
[01:00:22] boys need to spend their money on nice cars.
[01:00:25] And my favourite bit, which is Jack's already mentioned,
[01:00:27] when the pilot invites him into the cockpit.
[01:00:32] It's so funny.
[01:00:33] He's such a little kid when he does that.
[01:00:35] He's like, Dwight, do you want to come and sit in there for landing?
[01:00:38] He's like, oh, for real?
[01:00:41] You mean it?
[01:00:43] Did all of you imagine him sitting on his lap?
[01:00:46] Sitting on the pilot's lap.
[01:00:48] I imagined him wearing the hat.
[01:00:50] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:00:51] You know, Dwight, if you keep your grades up,
[01:00:54] you may be flying one of these days.
[01:00:56] Oh, shucks, mister.
[01:00:58] But I think the culture was like...
[01:01:00] Like even managers like Fergie, such a sulky baby as well.
[01:01:03] Yeah.
[01:01:04] There's a bit where...
[01:01:05] I can't remember exactly what it is,
[01:01:06] but I think Dwight Yogg's up for an award.
[01:01:08] Is it Player of the Year and Janola gets it?
[01:01:10] Is that what it is? I think it's like...
[01:01:12] So Fergie's like, right, we're boycotting the whole event.
[01:01:14] None of us are going.
[01:01:15] It's like, what?
[01:01:16] Why can't you just be gracious and defeat?
[01:01:18] Like, it's such a culture of like being emotionally mature.
[01:01:22] Which I find really funny.
[01:01:24] Like Bradley Cooper still turns up, doesn't he?
[01:01:28] Just go along.
[01:01:30] Just go along.
[01:01:32] We're boycotting the whole thing.
[01:01:35] I kind of agree with this.
[01:01:36] And also, the changing room,
[01:01:38] which comes across as quite intimidating in other books,
[01:01:41] just comes across as really naff in this one as well.
[01:01:44] There's two examples, which were...
[01:01:47] There's one bit where York goes there and he's like,
[01:01:51] that was when I got my first taste of the legendary United dressing room humour.
[01:01:55] After Alex Ferguson had gone, the lad started teasing me.
[01:01:58] So are you Fergie's son?
[01:02:00] Giggs Eqypse?
[01:02:01] Dwight Ferguson, is it?
[01:02:03] Hilarious, first of all.
[01:02:05] That's great.
[01:02:05] So funny.
[01:02:07] I mean, you kind of had to be there, but you know.
[01:02:09] And then the next one was...
[01:02:12] He talks about... Where's 1.77?
[01:02:15] He goes, David May had a particularly wicked sense of humour.
[01:02:21] And he says about his antics and the tabloids,
[01:02:24] great read yesterday, Yorkie.
[01:02:27] He would laugh.
[01:02:28] Or, come on Yorkie, what have you got for us this week?
[01:02:31] What is wicked about that?
[01:02:33] Nothing!
[01:02:34] Wicked and the wicked sense of humour.
[01:02:37] That's a shot!
[01:02:39] When he first comes to England from Trenton and Tobago,
[01:02:46] he does keep on saying like, oh, it was great.
[01:02:49] They just fed us nothing but beans on toast.
[01:02:51] They wouldn't have rice pudding.
[01:02:53] We didn't want rice pudding and beans on toast.
[01:02:55] We wanted for nothing more.
[01:02:57] I mean, you are yes, a child at this point,
[01:02:59] but also like you're like an eight-year-old boy.
[01:03:02] It's just baffling.
[01:03:04] That is a very good point.
[01:03:06] That was a villa, wasn't it?
[01:03:08] That was villa.
[01:03:09] And there's another weird thing that happens at villa
[01:03:11] where Graham Taylor says like,
[01:03:13] oh, we're going to play some cricket now, Dwight.
[01:03:15] And so they get Dwight to be like a batsman.
[01:03:19] Oh yeah!
[01:03:20] Instead of bowling at him, he just gets all the...
[01:03:23] I'm going to say white English players
[01:03:25] to throw cricket balls at him.
[01:03:27] He goes like, have some of this.
[01:03:29] They taste your own medicine, referring to the West Indies being good at cricket.
[01:03:32] It was very funny.
[01:03:34] Is it funny or is it?
[01:03:36] Yeah, why are you attacked?
[01:03:38] Yeah, it's not too nice.
[01:03:40] However, I will say,
[01:03:42] it was nice to have a book with a positive portrayal of Graham Taylor.
[01:03:45] I thought because so many books he've read have gone on.
[01:03:48] Graham Taylor, what was he like?
[01:03:50] Whereas this has been, you know,
[01:03:52] he's really quite a father figure to him throughout this
[01:03:55] and he gives him a chance and he's always there for him.
[01:03:58] He's quite supportive of him.
[01:04:00] Also, what a great find that was.
[01:04:02] Just going on a tour of Trinidad and Tobago.
[01:04:05] Yeah, fine.
[01:04:06] Was it two weeks just like a training camp over there?
[01:04:08] Fine in Dwight Yard.
[01:04:09] I felt so sorry for the other person they brought over
[01:04:11] from Trinidad and Tobago who they're like,
[01:04:13] you haven't made the cut.
[01:04:14] Too old, sorry.
[01:04:15] Go back there.
[01:04:18] And Dwight also is also like,
[01:04:20] I think he works at the airport now anyway.
[01:04:24] Oh God!
[01:04:26] Yeah, that is sad.
[01:04:28] The Graham Taylor stuff is also weird because he does like,
[01:04:31] there's a bit where he's like, what do you think, Graham?
[01:04:33] Shall I go back and play for Trinidad and Tobago?
[01:04:35] And Graham's like, I haven't talked to you in about 10 years.
[01:04:39] Why are you calling me about this?
[01:04:43] It's very, yeah, very strange, very strange, very sweet.
[01:04:46] Yeah, Graham Taylor almost definitely doesn't think
[01:04:48] he has the same relationship with Dwight York.
[01:04:50] Dwight York, does he?
[01:04:54] Did this book change you?
[01:04:57] Yeah, actually it did.
[01:04:59] It's probably one of the more impactful books I would say.
[01:05:01] Okay.
[01:05:02] It made me think about 90s or naughty's culture again
[01:05:05] and really delve into the Katy Price stuff,
[01:05:07] which was very depressing.
[01:05:09] But also, I also find the sort of his relationship
[01:05:12] with like, with success very interesting.
[01:05:15] So yeah, I actually quite enjoyed this one.
[01:05:18] And it was more authentic 90s experience than say that,
[01:05:20] you know, that the Beckham one we read a while ago
[01:05:22] that was a bit of a time capsule,
[01:05:24] but you didn't get any like emotion to it.
[01:05:26] It was just...
[01:05:27] No, there's definitely, there's a lot of lying I'd say
[01:05:30] and there's a lot of like false memory of it.
[01:05:33] There's a lot of lying, a lot of love.
[01:05:36] But there's no, well, it's weird
[01:05:40] because he's like, brutally honest,
[01:05:42] but also brutal and not really honest about himself.
[01:05:45] But equally, somehow that still comes across as authentic
[01:05:49] and I can't quite explain it.
[01:05:51] So it's a tough one.
[01:05:53] It's a tough, strange one.
[01:05:54] I think it feels authentic
[01:05:55] because I can imagine that is exactly how he is in person.
[01:05:58] You'd never quite know what was true
[01:05:59] and what was him being a bitch.
[01:06:01] I don't think...
[01:06:02] And some books can't capture that.
[01:06:03] Some books don't capture the realism.
[01:06:05] Yeah, but this is...
[01:06:07] This I imagine is exactly what he's like.
[01:06:10] And also that thing where you can kind of believe
[01:06:13] that when you're reading, you're like,
[01:06:15] yeah, that makes sense.
[01:06:16] And then you think about it like later and you go,
[01:06:17] oh God, no, wait.
[01:06:19] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:06:20] That's really disturbing what he said there.
[01:06:22] It's a bit that, you know, the thing with the frog
[01:06:25] and the hot water and it's like...
[01:06:26] Yes.
[01:06:27] And by the end he was saying all this awful stuff
[01:06:29] and I was like, God, this is just washing over me at this point.
[01:06:32] Wait, I don't know what the frog and the hot water thing was.
[01:06:34] What?
[01:06:35] The frog and the hot water.
[01:06:36] The time Dwight York drank a...
[01:06:39] He put a frog in a pan of water
[01:06:42] and he heat it up slowly and just chills.
[01:06:44] Well, it doesn't chill it.
[01:06:45] Oh, it doesn't chill.
[01:06:46] No, no, no.
[01:06:47] The exact opposite.
[01:06:48] Dwight York didn't do this, did he?
[01:06:49] No, no, no, no.
[01:06:50] It's a metaphor.
[01:06:51] Oh, okay.
[01:06:52] Oh, I know metaphors.
[01:06:53] So metaphors are basically when you say one thing
[01:06:55] but you're talking about something else.
[01:06:56] And what's...
[01:06:57] And a frog?
[01:06:58] What's this?
[01:06:59] Don't worry about it, James.
[01:07:01] Don't worry.
[01:07:02] It's been a long series.
[01:07:03] But yeah, I think...
[01:07:06] I did enjoy reading it and I do think...
[01:07:09] One thing is it kind of shows how much...
[01:07:12] Oh, we've come in 15 years really.
[01:07:14] Like this wouldn't get away with this anymore.
[01:07:17] Yeah, that's probably true.
[01:07:19] But I did find it interesting.
[01:07:22] It was very thought provoking in a way.
[01:07:28] I think he's a strange, strange man
[01:07:32] that has a lot of demons
[01:07:34] and I think he puts them out onto other people
[01:07:38] rather than into his craft.
[01:07:41] Interesting.
[01:07:42] Okay.
[01:07:43] Yeah.
[01:07:44] But not Andy Cole.
[01:07:45] Go on, what a partnership they were.
[01:07:48] Writing out 10.
[01:07:50] Oh, it's a hard one there.
[01:07:52] I'm going to jump in and give it an A because I enjoyed it.
[01:07:55] For the book, I'd give it one
[01:07:57] and morally I feel like I can't.
[01:07:59] Yes.
[01:08:00] To not only me.
[01:08:01] Yeah.
[01:08:02] But I did enjoy reading it
[01:08:03] so I'm going to give it a seven.
[01:08:05] Okay.
[01:08:06] Yeah, I'm going to be a coward and say seven as well.
[01:08:08] Okay.
[01:08:09] Not that you were a coward.
[01:08:10] I'm saying that I'm a coward
[01:08:11] for just basically saying,
[01:08:12] I'm not going to go beyond that.
[01:08:13] Same.
[01:08:14] Yeah.
[01:08:15] I know your market down at some point, Jack,
[01:08:17] when you win the quiz in a minute.
[01:08:18] No, when you win the quiz.
[01:08:20] This one, I have no idea how I would actually market.
[01:08:22] If I had to have the option of marking out about it.
[01:08:24] I don't know what I'd do.
[01:08:25] In a world of beige reads,
[01:08:26] it's a colorful read and it's fun.
[01:08:28] Yeah.
[01:08:29] Yeah.
[01:08:30] Yeah.
[01:08:31] James Balgen.
[01:08:33] Yeah, fine.
[01:08:34] Five.
[01:08:35] Bloody hell.
[01:08:36] Come on.
[01:08:37] I cannot predict what is going on with James Balgen.
[01:08:39] Show some character, boy.
[01:08:40] I didn't enjoy it that much.
[01:08:41] Oh.
[01:08:42] I didn't enjoy it that much.
[01:08:43] Sorry.
[01:08:44] I'm not going to read too much reading lately.
[01:08:45] So, this is my opinion.
[01:08:47] It's fine.
[01:08:48] You can have your opinion.
[01:08:49] Sorry.
[01:08:50] I'm sorry.
[01:08:51] I just...
[01:08:52] You think about Quentin Fortun again?
[01:08:54] Oh, wait.
[01:08:55] Can you do the Peter Andrew again?
[01:08:56] That might bump up to a six.
[01:08:57] Oh, no.
[01:08:58] Let me figure out the numbers.
[01:09:00] Eight plus seven plus six.
[01:09:02] Six.
[01:09:03] That is...
[01:09:04] Can you tell us how to make a coffee?
[01:09:07] Twenty-eight.
[01:09:08] Oh, my special coffee.
[01:09:09] Oh, guys.
[01:09:10] Your special coffee.
[01:09:11] You'll need a drink.
[01:09:12] Alcoholicine.
[01:09:14] You got seven.
[01:09:15] You got seven overall.
[01:09:16] I've got seven.
[01:09:18] This week on the quiz...
[01:09:20] Your name is the quiz time.
[01:09:22] Yay!
[01:09:23] This time on the quiz, this week on the quiz, you're named after Dwight Glamorous, drinking
[01:09:27] partners.
[01:09:28] Jack, your Carmen Electra.
[01:09:30] Tash, your Ricky Ponting.
[01:09:32] And James, your Norris off Coronation Street.
[01:09:39] There's no evidence that you drank with Norris, but I like to imagine that it was
[01:09:42] Norris.
[01:09:45] What milestone is Dwight talking about here?
[01:09:48] It was extremely enjoyable and represented the start of many such adventures.
[01:09:52] Carmen Electra.
[01:09:54] It's the first time he had sex because I've underlined the fact that he said it was
[01:09:59] extremely enjoyable.
[01:10:00] I know, right?
[01:10:01] What?
[01:10:02] What awful description!
[01:10:03] Oh, what an enjoyable thing to have done.
[01:10:06] My goodness.
[01:10:07] We should do that again.
[01:10:12] That's the last time we're doing that.
[01:10:14] Not!
[01:10:15] That was great!
[01:10:20] Oh, man.
[01:10:22] God, really, we all urged to sleep with Jack after that.
[01:10:27] I was going to say, I'll drink with you anytime.
[01:10:30] Too sexy.
[01:10:32] Who had the worst dress sense of any footballer Dwight's encountered?
[01:10:36] I'm going to guess.
[01:10:37] Carmen Electra.
[01:10:38] No, I don't know.
[01:10:40] Oh, sorry.
[01:10:41] That's your name.
[01:10:42] Sorry.
[01:10:43] I was going to say very mean.
[01:10:44] Yes, the answer, Jack.
[01:10:46] Ugo Echiog?
[01:10:47] Nope.
[01:10:48] Poor Ugo.
[01:10:49] We love that guy.
[01:10:50] I know, but there was a very sweet bit where he says Ugo Echiog takes
[01:10:56] edges to read the menu at restaurants.
[01:10:58] Oh, yeah.
[01:10:59] That was very sweet.
[01:11:00] Such a slam.
[01:11:01] Yeah.
[01:11:02] I'll give you a paper villa with him.
[01:11:04] I think he was wearing an older pro towards the end of his career there.
[01:11:07] Talksport host.
[01:11:08] Carmen Electra.
[01:11:09] Paul Merson.
[01:11:10] Nope.
[01:11:11] I'm going to take away Dean Saunders and apparently it's a, yeah, but have you seen the label?
[01:11:16] Okay, we're going back in the gutter.
[01:11:20] Who is Dwight's dream woman to get it on with?
[01:11:23] Any hopes?
[01:11:24] Oh, I know.
[01:11:25] Yes.
[01:11:26] No, it's not for the street.
[01:11:28] Yeah.
[01:11:29] It's Natalie and Brulia.
[01:11:31] Very correct.
[01:11:32] Very correct.
[01:11:33] Yeah.
[01:11:34] I forgot my bloody name.
[01:11:36] Ricky Ponty.
[01:11:37] Sorry.
[01:11:38] Yes, Bowdian.
[01:11:39] You are correct.
[01:11:40] It is Natalie and Brulia.
[01:11:43] What is Jordan's favorite genre of film?
[01:11:46] What is Katie Price's favorite genre?
[01:11:48] Oh, Ricky Ponty.
[01:11:49] Yes.
[01:11:50] Vampire films.
[01:11:51] Correct.
[01:11:52] Horrible vampire horror movies.
[01:11:54] Very funny.
[01:11:55] Oh, this is close.
[01:11:57] They got two points to play with.
[01:11:59] It's one all the moment between of you.
[01:12:01] What is the name of Dwight Housekeeper?
[01:12:05] Oh, the common lecture.
[01:12:09] Yes.
[01:12:10] Norma is correct.
[01:12:12] Always gets those.
[01:12:14] You're so good with like...
[01:12:16] I know because I've written down saying Norma is Dwight's intelligence.
[01:12:21] Because Norma is the one who reads all the papers.
[01:12:24] Yes.
[01:12:25] That's very true for him.
[01:12:27] And finally, what was Dwight's last text from Roy Keane after he was sacked as
[01:12:33] United Man?
[01:12:34] Common lecture.
[01:12:35] Go fuck yourself.
[01:12:37] Go fuck yourself is correct.
[01:12:39] It was very, very funny.
[01:12:41] Jackie, you pulled out again.
[01:12:44] 3, 1.
[01:12:45] Just like Dwight.
[01:12:46] Very enjoyable.
[01:12:51] You've got the last Ken's Long of the series, my friend.
[01:12:54] Lovely.
[01:12:55] You know what?
[01:12:56] You can all listen to it as a treat.
[01:12:58] Usually I make you leave the room.
[01:13:00] I'm going to play you a tune of Through the Wire by Keane, sampling Shaka Khan.
[01:13:06] Who's going to get counsel first?
[01:13:08] Dwight York or Keane?
[01:13:09] Well, I guess it's already...
[01:13:11] Some serious notes in this, Joan.
[01:13:15] Yeah, I was going to say.
[01:13:16] Yeah.
[01:13:17] What was I going to say?
[01:13:19] We got a message the other day saying, I really like Ken's songs because they're
[01:13:23] so long and drawn out and then the footballer comes at the end.
[01:13:25] Whereas this is the absolute opposite of that.
[01:13:27] It's the first word.
[01:13:29] You're going to hear it through the wire.
[01:13:31] Zeke Fryer's got his eyes upon the ball.
[01:13:35] There's no chance you'll make it through.
[01:13:38] You'll gladly risk it all.
[01:13:40] Zeke Fryer's...
[01:13:42] Okay, once you get the name out at the beginning, it really does.
[01:13:45] It's really hard to pull it to your teeth.
[01:13:47] You sound a bit like Ken.
[01:13:48] It's like telling a joke that you start with the punchline.
[01:13:52] It's like, no, no, no.
[01:13:53] The set up is very funny.
[01:13:55] But we're all here for the punchline.
[01:13:58] James, were you singing it then?
[01:14:01] Sounded like when they force Michael's arrow to sing on SuperBud.
[01:14:04] I'll take it.
[01:14:07] Right down to the wire.
[01:14:09] It's all Zeke Fryer's...
[01:14:12] There we go.
[01:14:13] Remember Zeke Fryer's?
[01:14:15] Yeah.
[01:14:16] Lesson learned, don't start with the name.
[01:14:18] Don't start with the name.
[01:14:19] Don't start with the name.
[01:14:20] But good though.
[01:14:21] Good though.
[01:14:22] I forgot he existed.
[01:14:23] Play for Spurs as well.
[01:14:24] You need to play for Spurs.
[01:14:25] And Palace.
[01:14:26] Yeah.
[01:14:27] Anyway, that's all for this week's episode.
[01:14:29] Put you back in a fortnight.
[01:14:30] No, we won't.
[01:14:31] It's the end of the series.
[01:14:32] Oh, my goodness.
[01:14:33] If you can't wait that long, being a year or so,

[01:15:15] That's it.
[01:15:16] We're done for the series.
[01:15:18] We're going to chat more in detail about a roundup of the series and our favourites
[01:15:22] and stuff, but did anyone have a favourite book this series?
[01:15:24] I think statistically Roy Keane came out on top.
[01:15:27] In terms of numbers.
[01:15:29] Oh, dear.
[01:15:31] Oh, not enjoyable.
[01:15:34] Not enjoyable.
[01:15:36] That actually really upsets me.
[01:15:38] Okay.
[01:15:39] Well, let's save that.
[01:15:40] Have you got a table?
[01:15:42] I won't lie.
[01:15:44] I forgot to do it from the first episode and I thought about going back
[01:15:47] and listen to the end of every episode.
[01:15:49] And I thought, nah, too much love for.
[01:15:54] So no one's going to ask me about that.
[01:15:57] Certainly not one of my other podcast hosts.
[01:16:01] I think the bigger...
[01:16:05] What was it?
[01:16:06] I do write somewhere.
[01:16:07] I think Roy Keane came out on top then.
[01:16:09] Walcott or Kaleen.
[01:16:10] I think Kaleen technically was higher.
[01:16:12] I like Kaleen.
[01:16:13] Kaleen feels like a really nice antidote to this book, I'd say.
[01:16:17] Yep. That's very true.
[01:16:18] Yeah, it's kind of the response to it all.
[01:16:21] It's the fuck you write back to the...
[01:16:23] Yes.
[01:16:24] Good.
[01:16:25] I love a little Frankie and Amy.
[01:16:26] The second time we've mentioned Amy and Frankie this year.
[01:16:28] I know.
[01:16:29] That's come up.
[01:16:30] It's timeless classic.
[01:16:31] Let's get Ken's on the name of Frankie.
[01:16:32] We're getting working on that over the summer.
[01:16:35] Attache about James.
[01:16:37] Quick one words.
[01:16:38] Favourite book?
[01:16:39] Oh, Lampard's Magic Football.
[01:16:41] Absolutely.
[01:16:42] Like nothing else we've ever...
[01:16:46] That was fun to do, to be fair.
[01:16:48] That was very fun to do.
[01:16:50] That's a funny episode.
[01:16:51] Tash, Jeveron?
[01:16:52] Was it Kaleen?
[01:16:53] Yeah, obviously Kaleen.
[01:16:54] But I did actually...
[01:16:55] Sorry, we're all asking.
[01:16:56] I have actually enjoyed quite a lot of these books this season.
[01:17:01] I think...
[01:17:03] I too.
[01:17:04] We enjoyed Walcott, didn't we?
[01:17:06] Did we enjoy Walcott?
[01:17:07] Yeah, Walcott was fun.
[01:17:08] Yeah, Walcott was fun.
[01:17:09] But yeah, there's been some good ones.
[01:17:12] That's not a joke.
[01:17:13] That's not a genuine joke.
[01:17:15] Who was the best host?
[01:17:17] Me for one episode or James for the rest?
[01:17:20] Absolutely right, Tash.
[01:17:22] That's the end of this episode.
[01:17:24] That's the end of it.
[01:17:25] I haven't got time for anything else.
[01:17:27] But thank you everyone for reading all the books.
[01:17:30] It's been a joy reading these largely terrible books with you as always.
